Jason Statham is back in the spotlight as one of his old action hits finds new life with audiences worldwide. According to information from Collider, The Expendables 3, the gun-fu thriller from 2014, has surged in popularity on VOD platforms, even though Statham’s latest film, Shelter, struggled at the box office earlier this year.

In The Expendables 3, Statham plays Lee Christmas, a skilled operative part of a team seeking revenge. The star-studded cast includes Sylvester Stallone, Jet Li, Harrison Ford, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Mel Gibson, and Wesley Snipes. The film was written by Stallone and directed by Patrick Hughes. Globally, it has become a top choice for digital rentals and purchases, streaming on MovieSphere in the U.S. and widely available internationally.

The movie is also remembered for a terrifying moment during filming. Statham performed a stunt driving a truck over the Black Sea, only to have the brakes fail. He plunged more than 50 feet into the water but survived thanks to his physical condition and training. Statham later reflected on the stunt, crediting his fitness for helping him escape the near-death situation.

Looking ahead, Statham has several new projects lined up. After Shelter wraps its theatrical run, he will star in Mutiny, an action thriller set to hit theaters this August. In 2027, he’s expected to return in The Beekeeper 2, the sequel to his 2024 hit. He is also set to appear in a new blockbuster from David Leitch, Jason Statham Stole My Bike, where he will play himself.

Despite recent box office challenges, Statham remains one of the most bankable and fearless action stars in Hollywood. The Expendables 3’s resurgence shows that audiences still love the high-octane stunts and ensemble action that defined the franchise.
