Netflix Reveals ‘Alexander,’ Jacob Tierney’s Epic Series on Aristotle and Alexander the Great
Netflix is set to bring a new series about Alexander the Great and his legendary tutor, Aristotle, to screens worldwide. The series, titled Alexander, is being written, directed, and executive produced by Jacob Tierney, known for his work on Heated Rivalry, according to an announcement by Thea Glassman on March 5, 2026.
The project is based on Annabel Lyon’s novel The Golden Mean and will explore the early life of Alexander as a young, ambitious prince under the guidance of Aristotle. The story dives into palace intrigue, forbidden romance, and brutal warfare, showing how the bond between mentor and protégé helped shape one of history’s greatest empires.
“I fell in love with Annabel Lyon’s book The Golden Mean years ago and have been dreaming of telling this story ever since,” Tierney said. “Brendan and I couldn’t be more excited to be partnering with Aggregate and Netflix to bring this insanely compelling world to life.”
Michael Costigan and Jason Bateman of Aggregate Films are on board as executive producers, alongside Brendan Brady from Accent Aigu Entertainment.
Netflix’s head of US and Canada scripted series, Jinny Howe, praised Tierney’s vision for the series. “Jacob Tierney is one of the most exciting, in-demand creative voices working today, and we are thrilled to work with him on Alexander,” Howe said. “This series reimagines the classic power struggle between mentor and protégé with a raw, modern energy that feels both epic and incredibly intimate.”
The series will highlight Alexander’s rise to power as the son of King Philip II of Macedon and Queen Olympias. Known for his charisma and tactical genius, Alexander conquered vast territories across Asia Minor, Syria, and Egypt, founded more than 70 cities, and left a legacy that stretched across three continents.
Lyon’s The Golden Mean, first published in 2010, was praised for bringing Alexander’s youth to life with “measured, burnished prose, which combines thrilling immediacy with a stately timelessness,” according to The Guardian.
Netflix has not yet announced a release date or full cast for Alexander, but fans can expect more updates on casting and production soon.
