Chappell Roan has responded after a situation involving a young fan and a security guard caused backlash online.

In a video she shared on Instagram Stories on March 22, Roan explained her side of the story and said she had no idea the interaction even happened at the time. “I didn’t even see a woman and a child. No one came up to me. No one bothered me. I was just sitting at breakfast in my hotel,” she said.

The situation first became public after Jorginho Frello posted on Instagram on March 21. He said his wife and their 11-year-old daughter saw Roan at a hotel in Brazil. According to him, his daughter noticed the singer, smiled, and then went back to sit down. After that, a security guard allegedly approached them and spoke harshly.

Frello claimed the guard accused the child of being disrespectful and warned the mother about her behavior. He said the guard even threatened to file a complaint with the hotel. “My daughter was extremely shaken and cried a lot,” Frello wrote in his post, adding that the experience left her in tears.

He also criticized Roan, saying it was disappointing to see this kind of situation involving someone who has fans who look up to her.

Roan, however, said the security guard was not part of her personal team. She made it clear she did not ask anyone to approach the family. “I did not ask the security guard to go up and talk to this mother and child,” she said. She also did not question Frello’s version of events and chose to apologize directly. “I’m sorry to the mother and child… That makes me really sad. You did not deserve that.”

The story gained attention quickly online, and Roan faced criticism from some fans after Frello’s post. Around the same time, she performed at the Lollapalooza Brazil on March 21, where she thanked her team on stage, including security.

This situation comes as Roan has already been vocal about setting boundaries with fans. In past videos and posts shared in 2024, she spoke about feeling uncomfortable with certain fan interactions in public. “I don’t care that abuse and harassment, stalking, is a normal thing… That does not make it OK,” she said in one TikTok video.

She also explained that she does not feel she owes strangers her time or attention just because they support her work. “Women do not owe you a reason why they don’t want to be touched or talked to,” she wrote in an earlier Instagram post.
