Margot Robbie stepped into a world of nostalgia and glamour for a new Chanel campaign. The set was transformed into a lively Paris street, and Robbie was channeling the spirit of fellow Aussie pop icon Kylie Minogue.

The campaign centers on the Chanel 25 handbag, and Robbie teamed up with filmmaker Michel Gondry, known for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, to recreate Minogue’s 2001 music video for Come Into My World. Minogue herself makes a brief cameo in the shoot. Gondry told Vogue, “I’ve been dreaming about Kylie for 25 years. So I finally found a way to see her again.”

For Robbie, the project was deeply personal. Her first-ever concert was Minogue’s Fever tour in Sydney, and Come Into My World was one of her favorite songs. Minogue also previously mentioned Robbie as her top choice to play her in a biopic. Robbie joked, “I can’t sing!” but said she loved stepping into Minogue’s world without needing to sing.

The shoot brought together nostalgia and creativity in a playful, collaborative atmosphere. Robbie told Vogue she was excited to wear Matthieu Blazy’s designs, from tailored jeans to cotton shirts and a chic brown trench coat. “I love the three-quarter-zip sweaters,” she added, noting how the outfits combined comfort with style.

Robbie also shared a memory from that first Kylie concert. “My best friend, her mom, and I drove to Sydney for it. I got a blue T-shirt with ‘Kylie’ written in pink, with her silhouette. I wish I still had that T-shirt,” she said.

The Chanel 25 handbag impressed Robbie with its versatility. “I love it because I can just squeeze so much stuff in it, but it still looks chic. I feel like I could go to work and go out to dinner and keep the same handbag,” she explained.

The campaign reflects Robbie’s ongoing relationship with Chanel, which has also featured in her films like Barbie and Wuthering Heights. She said, “From Barbie to Wuthering Heights—if Chanel can work in both, there’s nothing it doesn’t work for.”

On lighter topics, Robbie shared that if she and Kylie went to karaoke together, they might sing the Aussie classic The Horses by Daryl Braithwaite. She also mentioned seeing the movie Pillion, calling it a “perfect rom-com” that surprised her with its unexpected story.

The shoot, full of playful homage to Minogue and Parisian flair, perfectly blended nostalgia with high-fashion chic. It’s a reminder of the fun, creative energy that emerges when talented performers and designers collaborate.

It’s fascinating how Margot Robbie can honor Kylie Minogue while making it her own. What do you think of Robbie stepping into Kylie’s world for Chanel? Share your thoughts in the comments.
