Production for ‘Tomb Raider’ Halted as Sophie Turner Injured on Set
Filming for Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming Tomb Raider series has been paused after Sophie Turner suffered a minor injury on set. Turner, who plays Lara Croft, will take some time to recover before returning to the physically demanding role, according to a spokesperson for Amazon MGM Studios.
They said “We look forward to resuming production as soon as possible.” Reports suggest she could be back filming within two weeks.
Turner’s injury is thought to be connected to the intense physical training required for the role. She has a pre-existing back condition that was aggravated during filming, which began in January. An insider shared, “Sophie has been throwing herself into the role, but the grueling physicality of being Lara Croft has meant she has pushed her body too far.”
Earlier this year, Turner described her training regimen for the series. “We’ve been doing eight hours a day, five days a week, since February last year of training, so it’s been a lot,” she said. She also reflected on the challenge of getting into shape for the role: “Which I never had. So it has taken me months and months and months to get into good shape. That’s what I’ve learned.”
The Tomb Raider series stars Turner alongside Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Celia Imrie, and Bill Paterson. While filming is temporarily halted, crew members are expected to continue being paid, and preparations for resuming production are ongoing.
This series marks Sophie Turner as the third actor to take on the iconic role of Lara Croft, following Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander in previous film adaptations.
It’s clear Turner has been fully committed to bringing Lara Croft to life, but the physical demands of the role are intense. Her dedication is impressive, and fans will no doubt be eager to see her back in action soon. How do you feel about Sophie Turner stepping into the legendary role of Lara Croft?
