Throughout his celebrated career, Johnny Depp has frequently found himself linked to the world of Caribbean spirits. From the iconic query about the missing rum in the Pirates of the Caribbean series to his performance in the adaptation of The Rum Diary, the connection has remained a constant thread.

Now, the actor has entered a new phase of this relationship by debuting Three Hearts Rum, a high-end spirit created alongside his close companion Bobby DeLeon. This venture is far from a typical celebrity endorsement; it is a project that has been in development for several years.

Depp and DeLeon aimed to craft a product that truly honors their personal history and the deep cultural roots of the Caribbean islands. Depp’s affinity for the region is well-documented, as he has spent significant time over the last twenty years at his private Bahamian residence, Little Hall’s Pond Cay.

The design of the bottle is deeply personal, featuring artistic elements that mirror the actor’s own life and philosophy. The glass is adorned with symbols inspired by his tattoos, such as a skull to represent living life to its fullest and a lightning bolt signifying the strength of friendship.

The name itself, along with three embossed hearts, serves as a tribute to the most important people in his life. At the base, the brand’s guiding principles are inscribed: “No Fear. No Malice. No Envy.” Depp expressed his desire to highlight the human element behind the spirit’s production, noting that it is a product of history and hard work.

He shared his vision for the brand, stating, “Rum holds the history of the islands. It’s shaped by the hands of the people who grow the cane, ferment the spirit, and age it over time. Bobby and I wanted to create something that honored that tradition and the friendships that inspired it.”

DeLeon echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that the duo prioritized authenticity and patience over a quick market release. The liquid itself is a seven-year-aged blend produced in the Dominican Republic, featuring a unique maturation process.

It spent five years in bourbon barrels before being transferred to cognac casks for an additional two years, resulting in a complex profile of wood, spices, and vanilla. This inaugural “First Edition” release is intended to be the beginning of a larger project aimed at exploring and supporting traditional rum-making communities across the Caribbean.

Aside from his new spirit brand, the 62-year-old actor is currently immersed in a major cinematic comeback. He is currently filming Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol, a gothic and supernatural reimagining of the classic Dickens tale directed by Ti West.

In this version, Depp portrays a darker, more haunting version of Ebenezer Scrooge, starring alongside Andrea Riseborough as the Ghost of Christmas Past. The film is officially scheduled for a theatrical release on November 13, positioning it as a major holiday blockbuster.

Depp is also set to star in the thriller Day Drinker, directed by Marc Webb, which reunites him with his frequent collaborator Penélope Cruz. The story follows a cruise ship bartender who becomes entangled with a mysterious passenger, and it is currently in the early stages of production.

Additionally, he has been busy behind the camera, recently releasing his latest directorial effort, Modì, a biographical drama centered on the life of Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani. Between his evolving film slate and his new business endeavors, the actor’s current schedule marks one of his most active professional periods in years.
