DC Caught Off Guard by Recent Massive Success of Batman and Absolute Batman
Even DC Comics is surprised by how well Batman is doing right now. Both the mainline Batman series by Matt Fraction and Jorge Jiménez, and Absolute Batman by Scott Snyder, Nick Dragotta, and Eric Canete, are huge hits. The books are flying off shelves, and the energy at DC is reportedly “so much fun right now.”
Batman #1 by Fraction and Jiménez launched in September 2025, and it has only gotten more popular since then. On the BIFF! BAM! POW! podcast, Fraction talked about how both his title and Absolute Batman are performing. “The reception has been huge, our numbers go up every issue – like that doesn’t happen. DC is weirded out by it. But like, they’re in a really strong place, which is incredible, the energy and the vibe up there is terrific.”
Fraction also highlighted Scott Snyder’s role in all of this. “Poor Scott Snyder, who is sort of like, it feels like a war movie where all of the upper management are wiped out and now there’s just the sarge who has to be in charge of everything, he didn’t sign up to be quarterback but now he’s quarterback. With everything that has happened with the Absolute line, everything at DC is so much fun right now.”
Since the launch of DC’s Absolute Universe in October 2024, the line has sold about 12 million units. Absolute Batman alone sells roughly 300,000 issues each month. Fraction called it “an incredible moment” for DC fans, and it seems like there’s no end in sight for the success of these series.
For comic fans, this is exciting news. Both Absolute Batman and the mainline Batman are proving that the Dark Knight is still one of the biggest draws in the comic world, and the enthusiasm at DC is reflecting that success in a big way.
