The upcoming 50th Hunger Games are almost here, and fans are finally getting a glimpse of the younger faces behind Panem’s most iconic figures. Lionsgate recently unveiled a fresh look at the franchise, blending a retrospective of the previous five movies with a highly anticipated preview of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.

The teaser, released on Friday, April 10, highlights the transition from the original cast to the newcomers who will carry the torch when the film arrives in theaters on November 20. One of the most striking moments in the promo involves the introduction of the new Effie Trinket. “Remember?” Elizabeth Banks’ version of the character asks, just as the footage shifts to Elle Fanning’s portrayal in the prequel.

The clip also reveals a younger Caesar Flickerman, with Kieran Culkin stepping into the flashy role previously occupied by Stanley Tucci. Fans also caught their first glimpses of other familiar names in their prime, including Maya Hawke as Wiress and Jesse Plemons as a young Plutarch Heavensbee.

Directed by Francis Lawrence, this new installment focuses on a 16-year-old Haymitch Abernathy, played by Australian rising star Joseph Zada. Set 24 years before the events of the original trilogy, the story begins on the morning of the reaping for the Second Quarter Quell—a brutal tournament that required twice the number of tributes.

Zada takes over the role from Woody Harrelson, depicting the future mentor during the very games that would eventually define his life and lead to his hard-earned victory. The prequel, written by Billy Ray and based on the recent novel by Suzanne Collins, features an expansive ensemble cast.

Ralph Fiennes joins the production as a middle-aged President Coriolanus Snow, while Glenn Close portrays the formidable Capitol escort Drusilla Sickle. Other notable additions include McKenna Grace as Maysilee Donner and Kelvin Harrison Jr. as a younger Beetee Latier.

The film even hints at a brief return for Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson, who are expected to appear as Katniss and Peeta in a special epilogue sequence.

As for the film’s lead, Joseph Zada has been steadily building an impressive resume leading up to his trip to District 12. he stars in the Netflix series East of Eden, where he took on the complex role of Cal Trask.

He also recently starred in the Amazon Prime series We Were Liars, which debuted to strong reviews in mid-2025. Between his work on prestigious literary adaptations and his upcoming debut in one of cinema’s biggest dystopian franchises, Zada is quickly becoming one of the most sought-after young actors in the industry.
