Sabrina Carpenter Apologizes After Coachella Crowd Chant Moment Goes Viral
Sabrina Carpenter has offered a public explanation for her unusual response to a fan’s celebratory cheer during her Coachella headlining set on Friday, April 10. The interaction occurred while the singer was at her piano and was interrupted by a high-pitched, rhythmic vocal sound.
Unaware that the sound was a Zaghrouta—a traditional Middle Eastern and North African ululation used to express joy—Carpenter initially voiced her distaste to the crowd. The singer appeared visibly perplexed in social media clips, at one point questioning if the sound was a form of yodeling.
When an audience member attempted to clarify that the sound was a part of their heritage, Carpenter responded with skepticism, calling the moment “weird.” This exchange quickly ignited a debate online, with some observers criticizing the reaction as culturally insensitive while others attributed it to a simple misunderstanding.
my apologies i didn’t see this person with my eyes and couldn’t hear clearly. my reaction was pure confusion, sarcasm and not ill intended. could have handled it better! now i know what a Zaghrouta is!

I welcome all cheers and yodels from here on out https://t.co/f3KuT8sggH
By Saturday, Carpenter took to social media to clarify that her comments were not meant to be malicious but were born from her inability to see or hear the fan clearly from the stage.
“My reaction was pure confusion, sarcasm, and not ill-intended,” she explained in a post on X. She admitted that she “could have handled it better!” and expressed her gratitude for the cultural lesson, noting that she now welcomes the celebratory cheer at her future shows.
The controversy comes at a high point in the singer’s career. Earlier in the week, she debuted the music video for her latest single, House Tour, which serves as one of the key tracks for her seventh studio album.
The album, Man’s Best Friend, was originally released in August 2025 and has since earned her multiple nominations for the Grammy Awards, including a nod for Album of the Year. In addition to her musical success, the 26-year-old artist has been expanding her brand with several interactive fan experiences.
Just before her Coachella set, she opened the Fantasyland Pit Stop pop-up, featuring vintage cars and exclusive merchandise. Carpenter continues to dominate the charts with recent hits like Manchild and Tears.
Her transition from a sunset performer in 2024 to a festival headliner marks one of the fastest rises in modern pop history. With her Coachella run being broadcast to millions, the artist remains focused on performances.
