Emily Blunt (43) Drips in 300+ Pearls and Razor-Sharp Couture, Owning ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ Premiere
At the New York premiere of The Devil Wears Prada 2, Emily Blunt showed up in a look that felt straight out of her character’s world. Fans of the original film will remember her as Emily Charlton, the sharp-tongued assistant with zero tolerance for bad fashion. One of her most famous lines still says it all: “I’m sorry, do you have some prior commitment? Some hideous skirt convention you have to go to?”
This time, there was nothing even close to hideous about what she wore. Speaking to Vogue, Blunt explained why New York was the perfect place for the event. “New York as a city is a spectacle in itself, and so this film, so it had to be the home for our premiere,” she said.
For her first red carpet moment promoting the sequel, Blunt chose a dramatic gown by Schiaparelli. The dress came from the spring 2026 couture collection and featured a tight raffia bodice with a large, layered skirt that moved with her. It was bold, structured, and impossible to ignore.
She shared that her stylist, Jessica Paster, spotted the dress early. “My stylist Jessica Paster sent it to me from the couture runway, and knew it would be the one,” Blunt said. “And if you’re going to go big for a premiere, well, I’m not sure there’s one more appropriate for this dress than The Devil Wears Prada premiere.”

The design also had a personal touch. The house’s creative director, Daniel Roseberry, has worked with Blunt before. He created her gown for the Oscars when she was nominated for her role in Oppenheimer. She didn’t hide her admiration for him either. “I absolutely worship what Daniel does,” she said. “He’s such a bold and inspiring artist. I drool over his creations, so to be wearing one that I thought was so jaw-dropping when I first clapped eyes on it, is truly an honor.”
Her jewelry added even more drama to the look. Blunt wore pieces from Mikimoto, known for its history with cultured pearls. Instead of diamonds taking center stage, pearls did all the talking. Her necklace alone featured 156 Akoya pearls, mixed with rose gold and small diamond details. “Jessica and I both had the same reaction the moment we saw the choker—it was clearly the one,” she said. “It complemented the Schiaparelli gown in such a natural, elegant way with the pearls and delicate diamond petals. It just felt completely right.”
She didn’t stop there. On her wrist, she wore bracelets with 243 more pearls. Blunt explained why she keeps coming back to them. “I’ve always been drawn to pearls, they have such a timeless feel,” she said. “I’ve long admired Mikimoto for its extraordinary heritage. As the originator of cultured pearls, there’s a real sense of history and artistry behind each piece, which makes wearing their jewelry feel incredibly meaningful.”
The whole look matched the spirit of the film perfectly. The sequel brings back familiar faces like Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Stanley Tucci, while adding new names like Justin Theroux and Kenneth Branagh. It is directed by David Frankel and written by Aline Brosh McKenna.
The story follows Andy Sachs returning to Runway magazine, where Miranda Priestly is dealing with changes in the media world. Emily, once the overworked assistant, now holds real power as a luxury brand leader.
The film premiered in New York on April 20, and will hit theaters on May 1. If the fashion at the premiere is anything to go by, the sequel is not planning to play it safe.
