Jack Nicholson Turns 89 as Daughter Posts Rare New Photos of the Hollywood Icon Online
Jack Nicholson has turned 89, and new rare photos shared by his daughter, Lorraine Nicholson, have brought the Hollywood legend back into the spotlight.
The birthday took place on April 22. To mark the occasion, Lorraine posted a series of personal images on Instagram. One of them showed a throwback shot of her father holding a cigar, with a short caption reading “89?” She also shared another photo where Nicholson appears with musician Joni Mitchell visible in the background, writing simply “89!!”
Nicholson’s career started gaining major attention in 1969 when he appeared in “Easy Rider” as lawyer George Hanson. That role earned him his first Academy Award nomination and helped launch him into mainstream Hollywood.

Over time, he became one of the most recognized actors of his generation. His career was defined by strong screen presence, expressive performances, and a mix of charm and intensity that made him stand out in many major films.
He went on to win three Academy Awards during his long career. One of his biggest wins came for “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” where he received the Oscar for Best Actor. That film also made history by winning all major top categories at the Oscars, including best picture, director, actor, actress, and screenplay.
Producer Michael Douglas once shared an experience from that awards season in an interview with The Associated Press. He said Nicholson was difficult to convince to attend the ceremony. Douglas explained, “I remember how hard I had to persuade Jack to come to the ceremony. He was so reluctant, but we got him there.”
He also recalled the tense moment during the show, saying, “And then, of course, we lost the first four awards. Jack was sitting right in front of me and sort of leaned back and said ‘Oh, Mikey D, Mikey D, I told you, man.’ I just said, ‘Hang in there.’”
Nicholson later won Best Supporting Actor for “Terms of Endearment” and another Best Actor Oscar for “As Good as It Gets,” adding to his already strong legacy.
His filmography also includes widely known titles such as “The Shining,” which remains one of his most iconic performances.
In the 2010s, Nicholson stepped away from acting. Even so, his influence on cinema continues, and he is still regarded as one of the most important actors in film history.
Actress Shelley Duvall, who worked with him on “The Shining,” once spoke about him in an interview with Fox News Digital. She said, “He’s the greatest. I mean, the whole crew loved Jack. He was one popular guy.”
This birthday moment shows how Jack Nicholson’s legacy still draws attention even years after he left acting. The photos are simple, but they remind people how big his career was and how many memorable roles he gave to film history. Do you think modern actors have the same long-lasting impact as Nicholson?
