Adam Scott Already Knows the Ending of ‘Severance’ and Teases Big Surprises Ahead
Adam Scott has confirmed that he already knows how Severance will end.
Scott explained that he is not only the main actor in the Apple TV+ series but also an executive producer. Because of that, he is involved in ongoing discussions with the writers and creator Dan Erickson. He said he stays closely updated on every part of the story.
He made it clear that he prefers to have full knowledge of what is happening in the show. He said it helps him understand his character better and perform with more detail.
Scott also spoke about the upcoming third season. He said fans should expect a lot of surprises. “It’s going to be great. There are so many surprises. I can’t wait to shoot it,” he said.
He added that even though director Ben Stiller will not be directing this season, Stiller is still heavily involved in the project. Scott said the team remains close and excited to return after a long break between seasons. He mentioned that it has been over two years since filming wrapped on season two and the cast is eager to reunite.
Scott also reflected on how he got the role of Mark in Severance. He said it was not an easy process and that he had to prove himself to the production team. The show was a major investment for Apple, so they wanted to be sure he was the right fit.
He described the role as something he deeply wanted. He said the script stood out to him immediately and felt like a rare opportunity in his career. He also shared that he believed getting the part would only happen if he had built enough experience over many years.
Scott said he auditioned only once for the role. He joked that repeating auditions too many times can sometimes hurt your chances instead of helping them.
Before Severance, Scott said he wanted to move into more serious roles after finishing Parks and Recreation. He mentioned that it was difficult at first because people still saw him mainly as a comedy actor. He pointed out that he had to push hard to get roles like Big Little Lies, where he worked with Reese Witherspoon and director Jean-Marc Vallée.
He said Severance felt very different from anything he had done before. He described it as a complex world with a layered character that challenged him in new ways. In his view, the show felt like a major step forward in his acting journey.
Scott also talked about how difficult it was to film the “switching” scenes in the elevator, where his character changes states. He said the team spent a lot of time testing different approaches to make those moments feel real. He explained that they tried many versions before settling on the final performance style used in the show.
He said the series has developed a strong fan base and compared its mystery-driven style to shows like Twin Peaks. He also mentioned The Sopranos as another influence, saying he enjoys stories that do not explain everything and leave space for viewers to think.
Scott added that he does not worry about being typecast after Severance. He said the role is so specific and layered that it does not limit him. Even if it did, he said he would still consider it worth it because he loves the project.
Outside of Severance, Scott recently worked on a horror film called Hokum. He described it as a scary project but said he values horror films that work as strong stories first, before adding scares.
He also spoke about how much he enjoys returning to film sets and movie theaters. He said he loves the experience of watching stories in a dark room with an audience and feeling their reactions in real time.
Looking at Severance as a whole, Scott said the show connects with people because it reflects modern work life and emotional balance. He believes it works because it mixes a strange concept with real human feelings and questions.
In the end, he said the key idea of the show is what people would do if faced with its central technology. He believes that question stays with viewers and makes them think differently about their own lives.
Severance continues to grow in popularity as fans wait for the next season and the story’s final direction, which even its lead actor already knows.
