Shakira Concert Preparations Turn Deadly as Crew Member Dies in Brazil
A tragic accident has taken place in Brazil during preparations for a major free concert by Shakira, according to authorities and event organisers.
The incident happened while a stage was being built in Rio de Janeiro for the singer’s upcoming performance. The show is planned for Copacabana beach and is part of her current world tour.
Local officials confirmed that a crew member working on the setup died after being caught in equipment used for lifting during construction work. Emergency teams managed to free him and he was taken to hospital, but he did not survive.
The fire department in Rio de Janeiro said the worker suffered serious injuries to his legs during the accident. His name has not yet been released.
Concert organisers, Bonus Track, confirmed the death in a statement. They said, “Unfortunately, the technician passed away in hospital.” Workers had been on site for several weeks building the large stage for the event.
Witnesses described a sudden and chaotic moment when the structure appeared to fail. One worker, Antonio Marcos Ferreira dos Santos, said people rushed toward the scene after the accident. He explained, “Out of nowhere, we saw people running, and when we looked, the structure was on the ground.” He also said colleagues tried to reach the injured man quickly to help him.
Shakira has not made any public comment about the incident. The concert is still expected to take place, according to organisers.
The performance is part of a major tour that has drawn large audiences worldwide. It follows the release of her recent album and includes many of her well-known songs.
The tragedy has brought attention to the risks faced by workers who build large concert stages. At the time of the incident, crews had been working for weeks to prepare the site.
This is a very sad situation and shows how dangerous stage construction can be. Large events depend on many workers behind the scenes, and their safety should always come first. What do you think about this tragedy and how safety is handled at big events? Share your thoughts in the comments.
