Megan Thee Stallion Set to Exit ‘Moulin Rouge! The Musical’ Early Amid Klay Thompson Cheating Scandal
Megan Thee Stallion will end her Broadway run in “Moulin Rouge! The Musical” earlier than planned, with her final performance now set for May 1. The update was reported by Deadline.
She was originally expected to stay in the production until mid-May as part of a limited eight-week engagement. Her early exit shortens that run by a couple of weeks.
Megan joined the cast on March 24 at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre in New York. She played the role of Zidler and marked her first major Broadway appearance. The role brought a lot of attention to the show and helped boost ticket sales during her time on stage.
In a statement, she confirmed her departure date and reflected on her experience. “Unfortunately, my last performance on Moulin Rouge! The Musical will be May 1.”
She also spoke about her time with the cast and crew, saying she felt welcomed and inspired. “It’s been such an honor to be part of Moulin Rouge and I’ve met so many amazing people in this theater! Y’all work so hard and I have so much respect for the dedication, the stamina, the work ethic, the time and the effort y’all put into the work! Every single person at the Moulin Rouge has inspired me to go harder as an entertainer.”
She added more thanks for the team and fans who supported her Broadway debut. “I’m so grateful for the cast and crew that made this experience so meaningful. Y’all are really some of the kindest human beings I’ve ever met! To all the Hotties that showed up or planned to attend, thank you for supporting me during this incredible journey!”
No reason was given for her early departure. Her run on Broadway had a clear impact on the show’s business. Reports show ticket sales jumped after she joined, with weekly earnings rising above $1 million and even reaching around $1.6 million in mid-April. Before her arrival, numbers were significantly lower.
Her time in the show also included a health scare. During a March 31 performance, she became unwell and was later treated for exhaustion and dehydration. She returned to the stage a couple of days later.
The production will continue its Broadway run through August 30, and producers are expected to announce her replacement soon.
The timing of her exit has also drawn attention because it comes shortly after news of her breakup with NBA player Klay Thompson. She confirmed the split publicly, saying trust and respect were key reasons for her decision to move on.
A viral video also showed her getting emotional during a curtain call performance, which fans linked to her recent personal and professional changes.
From a broader view, her Broadway run clearly made a strong impact both on stage and at the box office. The show benefited from her presence, and even with her early exit, it seems the production will keep moving forward without slowing down.
