Jensen Ackles Confirms ‘Vought Rising’ Is Built for Multiple Seasons and He Didn’t Need Much Convincing

Soldier Boy Is Not Only Back for Season 5, He Is Becoming a Series Regular

With ‘The Boys‘ racing toward its long-awaited finale, the Prime Video universe is not exactly slowing down. The franchise’s fourth series, ‘Vought Rising’, is a prequel set in the 1950s that follows the twisted murder mystery surrounding the origins of Vought International, the early exploits of Soldier Boy, and the diabolical scheming of Stormfront. For a show built around one of the most charismatic and volatile characters in the entire franchise, the enthusiasm behind the scenes seems to match whatever fans have been feeling since the spinoff was announced.

Jensen Ackles, who originated the role of the cryogenically frozen early Supe back in Season 3 of the Prime Video series, is set to reprise the character as the central figure of ‘Vought Rising’. Alongside him, Aya Cash returns as Klara Risinger, the character known to fans as Stormfront, with the two leads reprising their roles from ‘The Boys’. The pairing alone is enough to generate excitement, but it is what Ackles has revealed about the show’s long-term ambitions that is really turning heads.

Speaking to Collider, Ackles made it clear that ‘Vought Rising’ was never conceived as a one-and-done limited series. He recalled the moment the prequel was first pitched to him, saying the producers had barely finished their opening sentence before he was already in. The intent, he confirmed, is to build something that runs across multiple seasons rather than wrap things up with a single chapter.

Ackles explained what makes the 1950s setting so compelling for the character, noting that audiences have only ever seen Soldier Boy as a man out of step with his era, describing him as “an analog man in a digital world.” The prequel flips that entirely, showing him in his prime, in a time where he genuinely belongs and where he operates as the undisputed top figure in the Supe world. That inversion of the dynamic fans already know promises a very different kind of story from what ‘The Boys’ has delivered.

Beyond the spectacle, Ackles has framed ‘Vought Rising’ as a genuine character study, one that will dig into the experiences and events that shaped Soldier Boy into the broken, dangerous figure audiences eventually met in the main series. Franchise creator Eric Kripke has also weighed in on the show’s future, saying it features a satisfying seasonal arc while still opening a door into new adventures, adding that he would love to keep the story going if given the opportunity.

The series is currently expected to premiere on Amazon Prime Video in 2027, giving the creative team room to develop the world properly rather than rush the first season out the door. The cast beyond Ackles and Cash includes Elizabeth Posey, Will Hochman, Mason Dye, KiKi Layne, and Brian J. Smith, among others, building out what looks to be a rich ensemble for the period setting. With ‘The Boys’ wrapping its final chapter and ‘Gen V’ no longer in the picture, ‘Vought Rising’ is shaping up as the cornerstone of wherever this franchise goes next.

Whether Soldier Boy as the undisputed lead of his own multi-season saga is the direction you have been hoping for is exactly the kind of thing worth debating, so share your thoughts on whether ‘Vought Rising’ has what it takes to carry the franchise forward on its own.
