The mystery surrounding how an unreleased Lionsgate film ended up on Amazon’s platform in the first place has only deepened industry frustration. Buyers have reportedly been left wondering why Prime Video would have access to an entire unreleased film from a studio with no direct affiliation to Amazon MGM Studios, a detail that’s fueled speculation about exactly how the leak occurred.
Deadline noted that both Amazon and the film’s producers declined to comment on the situation, as did Lionsgate itself, leaving distributors largely in the dark about what caused the leak or how it might be addressed. One buyer expressed hope that Amazon might eventually offer some form of compensation to affected distributors to help offset the financial fallout, though nothing concrete has been confirmed publicly.
‘Mutiny’ follows Cole Reed, an ex-Special Forces operative and former New York cop played by Statham, who works in private security for a Thai shipping tycoon. After witnessing his boss’s murder, Cole is framed for the crime and forced to flee through the victim’s freight ships, uncovering a far deeper international conspiracy along the way. Directed by Jean-François Richet, the film also stars Annabelle Wallis, Roland Møller, and Jason Wong, and opened in theaters on August 21.
