That’s exactly what happened during production on the latest Spider-Man installment, according to Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige. Speaking at his alma mater, the University of Southern California, Feige opened up about a moment from the shoot that ended up shaping one of the film’s most talked-about scenes.

Feige revealed that fan reactions during the very first week of filming directly influenced how the studio decided to end ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day.’ He explained that hundreds of people showed up on the street during that opening week, all filming the production themselves, and the moment ended up looking just as impressive on camera as it felt in person.

According to Feige, people were literally coming out and shouting that they loved Spider-Man, essentially recreating in real life the exact emotional beat that appears at the end of the movie. He noted that seeing a stuntman in the suit swinging through the streets sparked a genuine, thrilling reaction from onlookers, one that he said invigorated both himself and director Destin Daniel Cretton as they shaped the film’s conclusion.

The ending in question involves Spider-Man being accidentally shot by Jon Bernthal’s Punisher during the film’s climactic battle, leading to a hospital stay where Frank Castle helps him slip out undetected. As Spider-Man leaves, he’s met by a crowd of adoring fans cheering him on, mirroring the very scene Feige described from that first week of production in Glasgow, Scotland.

That parallel wasn’t lost on Feige, who connected the dots between what happened organically on set and what eventually made it into the finished film. Rather than treating the crowd of onlookers as an inconvenience or a security concern, the production seemed to embrace the energy of that moment and translate it directly into the story itself, according to The Direct.

It’s a rare glimpse into how unscripted, real-world enthusiasm can shape a blockbuster’s creative direction, especially for a character as beloved and accessible as Spider-Man. Filming largely took place in Glasgow and throughout England between August and December of last year, with additional soundstage work completed at Pinewood Studios.
