‘Star Trek Online’ Is Bringing Three Spocks Together for a Wild 60th Anniversary Adventure
‘Star Trek’ is getting ready for a huge anniversary, and ‘Star Trek Online’ is joining the celebration in a pretty special way. The game’s next season, ‘Rediscovered,’ will take players on a trip through different parts of ‘Trek’ history, with one famous character at the center of it all: Spock.
The big idea is simple but exciting. Players will meet three different versions of Spock during the new storyline. Each one comes from a different point in the character’s long history, giving longtime fans a chance to see the iconic Vulcan in several forms at once.
Ethan Peck will return as the younger Lieutenant Spock from ‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.’ Piotr Michael will also join the story as an older Captain Spock based on the version seen in ‘Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.’ But the most emotional part of the crossover may come from Leonard Nimoy.
Nimoy, who died in 2015, will appear through restored archival dialogue. That means fans will once again hear the original Spock in a new adventure, using recordings from his earlier work. It gives the game a chance to connect the modern ‘Star Trek’ universe with the character’s original legacy.
Zachary Quinto’s Kelvin timeline version of Spock is not part of this particular story, so the focus stays on the three versions featured in the new adventure. Still, bringing together Peck, Michael, and Nimoy’s archival performance is a pretty big way for the game to celebrate the character.
‘Rediscovered’ is also doing more than simply bringing different Spocks together. The story continues ‘Star Trek Online’s’ remastered version of the “The Ultimate Klingon” storyline. The new chapter follows the earlier “Undiscovered” story and introduces a problem that could affect the entire galaxy.
According to Arc Games and Cryptic Studios, strange disappearances involving important Federation and Klingon figures cause time itself to start breaking apart. Players will have to investigate what happened to Lieutenant Miral Paris and Ambassador B’vat while moving through different periods of ‘Star Trek’ history.
The developers explained the story in a joint statement, saying, “Captains must unravel the mystery behind the disappearances of Lieutenant Miral Paris and Ambassador B’vat.” They added, “Her final message on the Gateway Planet will send players on a temporal chase across Star Trek history where captains meet Spock through the ages and continue the quest to stop B’vat.”
Lisa LoCicero will return to voice Lieutenant Miral Paris, while Jon St. John will once again play B’vat. Since the story jumps between different timelines, fans can expect familiar characters and events to appear in some unexpected ways.
The anniversary celebration will also give players another reason to jump into the game. ‘Star Trek Online’ is introducing a special Starship Icons Prize Pack. Players will have a chance to win one of 60 different starships, with the top prize being a Constitution Pilot Multi-Mission Cruiser inspired by the ship from ‘Strange New Worlds.’
The timing is also fitting. PC players will get ‘Rediscovered’ on September 22, while the PlayStation and Xbox versions are scheduled to arrive on November 10. That gives players across different platforms a chance to take part in the anniversary celebration.
For a franchise that has been around for nearly six decades, looking back is an important part of the celebration. But ‘Star Trek Online’ is not simply replaying old memories. By putting different versions of Spock into one story, the game is using the past to create something new.
That may be the biggest appeal of ‘Rediscovered.’ Fans who grew up with Nimoy’s Spock can experience a piece of that era again, while viewers who discovered the character through ‘Strange New Worlds’ can see Ethan Peck’s version take part in a much larger piece of ‘Trek’ history.
If the new season delivers on its time-travel story, ‘Rediscovered’ could become one of the most memorable ways for ‘Star Trek Online’ to celebrate the franchise’s 60th anniversary. Three Spocks, multiple timelines, and a mystery stretching across ‘Star Trek’ history certainly sounds like a fitting birthday adventure.
