Marvel’s Massive ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Marketing Blitz Just Made Another Stop in Shanghai
Marvel Studios has never been shy about building anticipation months, even years, ahead of its biggest crossover events, and the road to December’s mega team-up has been unfolding on a genuinely global scale. Long before a single trailer hit screens, the studio has been staging elaborate physical displays across international markets to keep fans talking.
That promotional campaign first made waves back in July, when a Shanghai Expo activation recreated actual sets from the film, including Doctor Doom’s throne room and Charles Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters. Those installations gave fans their first tangible glimpse of just how massive this crossover’s scope was shaping up to be, well before any official footage had surfaced.
Now, that same promotional push has made another stop in China, with a brand-new installation appearing that arranges the film’s various superhero team logos among greenery, staircases, and decorative clouds. It’s the latest in a growing string of international activations designed to tease exactly how sprawling this Marvel crossover is going to be.
The display prominently features the Avengers‘ iconic “A” logo at its center, flanked by circular emblems representing the X-Men, the Fantastic Four’s signature “4,” and imagery tied to Wakanda, including a Black Panther-branded trash receptacle placed nearby. It marks at least the second major Shanghai-area marketing push for the film this year alone.
That scale makes sense given just how enormous the assembled cast has become. The Avengers side of the roster includes Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Winston Duke, Tom Hiddleston, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, Robert Downey Jr., Wyatt Russell, Simu Liu, Florence Pugh, and Danny Ramirez, among others.

Joining them are the leads from ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps,’ including Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn, alongside a returning wave of X-Men franchise veterans such as Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Kelsey Grammer, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden, and Alan Cumming. Channing Tatum is also set to appear, reprising his Gambit role from ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’
At the center of it all is Downey, who has stepped into the role of Doctor Doom for this next chapter. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has described the character as the prototypical supervillain archetype that influenced generations of pop culture antagonists, pointing to Doom’s genius, warmth, and unwavering belief that he’s actually the hero of his own story as what makes the character so compelling.

Earlier marketing materials tied to the original July Shanghai Expo appearance depicted Doom flanked by distinct hero factions, Steve Rogers, Thor, and Ant-Man among the New Avengers on one side, X-Men members like Cyclops, Mystique, and Magneto on another, with the Fantastic Four rounding things out alongside Sam Wilson’s Captain America, Black Panther, and Shang-Chi. Loki has also reportedly been worked subtly into some of that promotional artwork, fueling ongoing speculation about exactly what role he’ll play in the larger story.
Behind the camera, the Russo Brothers are directing, with Feige and Louis D’Esposito producing alongside the Russos’ AGBO banner. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is scheduled to hit theaters December 18, with its direct follow-up, ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ arriving roughly a year later on December 17, 2027.
Given the sheer scale of this rollout so far, spanning recreated movie sets and elaborate public installations across multiple countries, it’s clear Marvel is treating this crossover as one of the most significant events in the franchise’s history. With reshoots reportedly still ongoing and a full trailer yet to arrive, fans can expect this promotional momentum to keep building right up until the December release.
