HBO’s ‘Harry Potter’ Just Revealed Every Wand Detail Fans Have Been Waiting For
Small production details often carry outsized weight for adaptations of beloved book series, especially when the source material devotes entire chapters to explaining exactly why certain objects matter. Few elements of J.K. Rowling’s world have generated quite as much devoted fan discussion over the years as the specific wood, core, and length of each character’s wand.
HBO’s upcoming “Harry Potter” series has spent months rolling out carefully considered production details as it builds toward its first season, and the show’s official social media accounts have now turned their attention to one of the franchise’s most beloved pieces of lore. Given how much weight Rowling placed on wand lore throughout the books, this particular reveal was always going to draw serious fan scrutiny.
The official Harry Potter account has shared new detailed images breaking down the wands for Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, Draco Malfoy, and Neville Longbottom ahead of the series’ premiere. Each image includes the wand’s wood type, core material, and exact length, alongside a short piece of lore explaining its significance to that character’s story.
According to the reveal, Harry’s wand is made of holly with a phoenix feather core and measures 28 centimeters. The accompanying description notes that Harry’s wand and Voldemort’s wand share a core from the same phoenix, with Ollivander famously describing them as “brother wands” due to that shared connection.
Ron’s wand, meanwhile, is crafted from ash wood with a unicorn hair core and measures 31 centimeters. The description ties the wand directly to Ron’s family history, noting it was a hand-me-down originally belonging to his older brother Charlie. Draco Malfoy’s wand rounds out the reveal at a comparatively shorter 25 centimeters, made from hawthorn wood with a unicorn hair core, a wood type traditionally associated in the books with wizards experiencing inner conflict.
Fans reacting to the reveal have praised how closely the new designs track with details laid out across Rowling’s original novels. Harry’s wand length and materials align with the book’s description of an 11-inch holly wand containing a phoenix feather donated by Fawkes, Dumbledore’s own phoenix, the same bird that supplied the feather at the core of Voldemort’s wand.

Ron’s wand history also checks out against established lore, since the ash-and-unicorn-hair wand described in the new images matches the one he inherited from Charlie before it broke during his second year at Hogwarts. That kind of attention to established continuity has become a recurring theme in how HBO has approached the series’ physical props and production design so far.
For a fanbase that has spent decades memorizing wand lore as closely as major plot points, this kind of granular detail matters. Each wand’s wood type carries specific symbolic meaning within the books, tying directly into character traits and story arcs that longtime readers will recognize immediately.
With HBO continuing to release these kinds of detailed behind-the-scenes reveals ahead of the show’s premiere, anticipation for how faithfully the series will translate the broader Wizarding World to the screen keeps building. Given how positively fans have responded to these wand designs specifically, it suggests the production team is putting real care into honoring the source material’s finer points.
