New ‘Street Fighter’ Poster Puts Ryu’s Hadouken Front and Center
Ryu has always been the face of ‘Street Fighter‘. The headband-wearing wanderer anchors the franchise’s mythology, and no live-action adaptation can work unless he looks and fights the part. That’s why every new glimpse of him ahead of the film’s release draws such close scrutiny.
The role belongs to Andrew Koji, who was announced as Ryu in September 2025 through the film’s official X account. Koji is best known for playing Ah Sahm in 30 episodes of ‘Warrior’ between 2019 and 2023. He has also appeared in ‘Snake Eyes’ as Storm Shadow and in ‘Bullet Train’.
Now the marketing team has given him another spotlight via a new poster.
The poster leans hard into the game’s iconic imagery. Ryu glares out from a red-tinted background in his red headband and red fingerless gloves, with his hands wrapped around a swirling ball of blue energy. The words Filmed for IMAX sit inside the glow, with the ‘Street Fighter’ logo and the Oct. 16 date near the bottom.
That fireball is no accident. It shows Koji’s Ryu powering up his Hadouken, and the signature move has become a centerpiece of the campaign. It also fits a film that has gone out of its way to recreate the arcade classic’s most recognizable moments.

This is far from the first poster push. At The Game Awards in December 2025, Paramount and Legendary revealed 17 character posters covering nearly the entire ensemble, alongside the first teaser. In July, Deadline reported on another wave of character posters that arrived with a sneak peek of a fight between Blanka, played by Jason Momoa, and Ryu.
The cast around Koji is enormous. Noah Centineo plays Ken Masters, Callina Liang is Chun-Li, David Dastmalchian is M. Bison, and Roman Reigns plays Akuma. Wrestlers, fighters, and musicians round out the roster, with names such as Cody Rhodes, Hirooki Goto, and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson.

According to the official synopsis, the film is set in 1993 and follows the estranged Ryu and Ken as they get pulled back into combat by the mysterious Chun-Li. She recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament, which conceals a deadly conspiracy. That plot forces the two former friends to face off against each other as well as the demons of their past.
Kitao Sakurai directs the film, which runs 119 minutes and is classified as an action comedy. Rotten Tomatoes lists it as PG-13. With less than a month until release, the promotion is clearly aimed at making the movie feel like an event, and the IMAX branding on this poster reinforces that.

For fans, the question is whether the finished film can match the confidence of its marketing. Koji’s Ryu has been front and center in nearly every stage of the rollout, so the pressure on him is high. This latest poster is another sign that Paramount is comfortable betting on that.
