Dakota Johnson Doubles Down on Naked Dressing in Sheer Cream Lace at the ‘Verity’ London Gala
Dakota Johnson’s red carpet style has become almost as talked-about as her movies, and her ‘Verity’ press tour is proving no exception. InStyle has noted that while her street style tends to be casual and laid-back, she has made a habit of delivering strong naked dress moments on the red carpet, especially in sheer lace.
Her track record speaks for itself. She has worn a see-through black Gucci gown at the Kering Foundation’s Caring for Women dinner, a royal blue Gucci dress with a lacy bodice when she received the Golden Eye award at the Zurich Film Festival, and a sheer white Chloé gown at the Red Sea International Film Festival last December.
On September 24, Johnson added another chapter to that story at the ‘Verity’ UK Gala Screening at the Curzon Mayfair in London. Getty photos shared by JumpTrailers show her in a floor-length cream lace gown, with her signature bangs and long dark waves framing her face.
The dress came from New York designer Colleen Allen. WWD described it as a creamy maxidress crafted from delicate floral lace, featuring a plunging scoop neckline with ruffles and a streamlined silhouette, with black Fleur du Mal lingerie peeking through underneath.
The photos quickly drew attention online. Clearly, fans were eager for another look at Johnson’s latest daring ensemble. Marie Claire reported that Johnson’s longtime stylist, Kate Young, sourced the look, marking a new designer for the actress. The outlet noted that Colleen Allen already counts Jennifer Lawrence, Kaia Gerber, Olivia Rodrigo, Nicole Kidman, and Emma Stone among its fans.

Interestingly, the brand’s lookbook styled the dress over a beige slip. Johnson instead chose a black silky triangle bralette and matching thong from Fleur du Mal’s Luxe collection, which Marie Claire says is her go-to lingerie brand, with the set retailing for less than $150. Marie Claire also pointed out how the ruffled neckline folds over the back, giving the column silhouette a vintage, bridal-inspired feel with a sultry twist.
The look did spark some debate. Red Carpet Fashion Awards admitted Johnson looked good, but found the black underwear jarring against the cream lace and said it would have preferred either the black version of the dress or neutral undergarments.

The site even joked that it hoped this would be the last lace dress of the press tour. Still, most outlets embraced the risk, with the FashionSpot describing the gown as an ethereal blend of bohemian charm and modern red carpet daring.
Johnson attended alongside co-star Josh Hartnett, while Anne Hathaway stayed in New York. Marie Claire noted that Hathaway is expecting her third child, and a New York premiere is planned for next week.

In ‘Verity’, Johnson plays Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer hired to ghostwrite for Hathaway’s Verity Crawford after an accident leaves the author unable to move or speak. As Lowen digs through Verity’s autobiographical notes, she discovers that not everything is what it seems.
