Florence Pugh Goes Full Gothic Glam at Netflix’s ‘East of Eden’ BAFTA Screening

Florence Pugh has never been one to play it safe on the red carpet, and her promotional tour for Netflix’s ‘East of Eden’ has turned into a masterclass in character-driven style. With the limited series just days away from its debut, the Oscar-nominated actress has been stepping out in look after look across London.

The 30-year-old stars as Cathy Ames in the new adaptation of John Steinbeck’s 1952 novel, which follows the Trask and Hamilton families in California’s Salinas Valley during the early 20th century. According to the official logline, this modern interpretation explores the multigenerational saga of the Trask family while shining a new spotlight on its indelible antihero, Cathy.

On Friday, September 25, Pugh arrived at a special screening of the series hosted by BAFTA in London, and she made sure all eyes were on her. Netflix shared a short clip of her on the red carpet, which quickly made the rounds.

For the occasion, she wore a black ruffled Rodarte gown from the brand’s Fall 2026 collection, featuring an off-the-shoulder neckline and dramatic volume. She paired it with a Bvlgari necklace, where a red stone nestled among the diamonds echoed her bold blood-red lip.

Her blonde hair was swept back into a sleek, voluminous style that added to the gothic mood. Fashion observers noted that the moody, darker look suited the more sinister side of the story, marking a sharp contrast to the florals and summery palette she wore at the series’ New York screening.

The BAFTA gown capped off a busy promotional stretch in the British capital. At the London photocall, Pugh wore a richly patterned Dior coat with a sharp white collar, before switching into a pleated Rodarte blouse and wide-leg trousers.

Earlier on the day of the screening, she stopped by BBC Studios in a green striped button-up shirt and pinstripe high-waisted trousers, both by Vivienne Westwood. Each outfit has leaned into a different mood, keeping fans guessing about what she’ll wear next.

Pugh wasn’t alone on the carpet. She was joined by co-star Mike Faist, along with Zoe Kazan, who serves as co-showrunner, writer, and executive producer on the series, and Jeb Stuart.

Speaking to the Press Association at the screening, Pugh described making the show as a beautiful experience despite how complicated and complex her character is. She explained that the role pushed her to grow as a performer and, in the process, ensured she was fully in control of every choice she made.

Pugh also serves as an executive producer on the series, a role she said she enjoyed because she considers herself very opinionated. It’s a sign of how deeply invested she is in bringing Cathy to life. The ensemble cast is packed with talent. Alongside Pugh and Faist, the series features Christopher Abbott, Hoon Lee, Tracy Letts, Ciarán Hinds, Martha Plimpton, and Joseph Zada.

Joe Anders, the son of actress Kate Winslet and director Sam Mendes, also appears in the series. His casting has added another layer of intrigue to an already buzzy production. Fans won’t have to wait long to see Pugh’s take on one of literature’s most infamous antiheroes. All 7 episodes of ‘East of Eden’ will arrive on Netflix on Thursday, October 1.

For an actress whose career already includes a British Independent Film Award, an Oscar nomination, and 3 BAFTA nominations, this limited series could be another major milestone. Judging by her red carpet presence, Pugh is more than ready for the spotlight.
