‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Is About To Reach a Domestic Box Office Milestone No Movie Has Ever Touched
Tom Holland’s latest swing as the web-slinger has already rewritten the record books, but the ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ box office run still isn’t finished. Even in its ninth weekend, Sony and Marvel’s blockbuster is inching toward yet another historic first at the North American box office.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton from a script by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, the film hit U.S. theaters on July 31 after premiering at the Dolby Theatre on July 27. Holland leads a stacked cast that includes Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Florence Pugh, Tramell Tillman, Marisa Tomei, and Mark Ruffalo.
Now, the film is on the verge of a milestone no release has ever reached. According to box office analyst Luiz Fernando, ‘Brand New Day’ grossed $1 million on its ninth Friday, dropping just 34.6% from the previous week despite losing 608 theaters.
That brings the domestic total to $947.6 million. Fernando projects a ninth weekend of $3.5 million to $4 million, which could make it the first film in history to cross $950 million in the U.S. and Canada as soon as this weekend.
The steady hold is impressive considering the competition. This weekend’s crowded slate includes ‘Avengers: Endgame Encore’, ‘Primetime’, ‘Heart of the Beast’, and ‘Resident Evil’. The film’s journey began with a bang. ‘Brand New Day’ opened with $360 million domestically, the biggest opening weekend of all time, surpassing the previous record held by ‘Avengers: Endgame’.

It then became the first film since ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ to top the box office for 6 consecutive weekends. Earlier this month, it passed the $936.6 million domestic record held for a decade by ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’, officially becoming the highest-grossing film ever in North America.

Sony celebrated the achievement by thanking fans for helping the movie make cinematic history. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige credited the success to the enduring appeal of Peter Parker and the star power of Holland, who is now considered the highest-grossing actor of all time.
The worldwide numbers are just as staggering. ‘Brand New Day’ has earned roughly $2.48 billion globally, making it the highest-grossing film of 2026 and the third highest-grossing film of all time, trailing only ‘Avatar’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame’.
It also became the highest-grossing Hollywood film ever in India with $52 million, overtaking ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’. Against a reported $225 million production budget, the film’s global haul is about 11 times its cost.
The web-slinger’s success has lifted the entire industry. Deadline reported that the summer box office hit an all-time record of $4.76 billion, unseating the previous high set in 2013.
Sony crossed $1 billion in domestic summer grosses, with 93% of that coming from ‘Brand New Day’ alone. Alongside Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’, the film helped make this one of the strongest moviegoing seasons in history.
Audiences have clearly embraced the film, as reflected by its A CinemaScore. That strong word of mouth has kept it in theaters well into the fall, even as its screen count shrinks each week.
If Fernando’s projections hold, ‘Brand New Day’ will close out the weekend in record territory once again. For a franchise that has already given fans so many iconic moments, it’s another remarkable chapter in Spider-Man’s box office legacy.
