Lego’s First-Ever Dragon Ball Set Leaks Early, and Shenron Looks Absolutely Massive

Anime fans and brick builders have been waiting months for this crossover, and the LEGO Dragon Ball Shenron & Goku set is finally coming into focus. The timing feels fitting, since this year marks the 40th anniversary of the anime series’ original debut.

The partnership was officially confirmed on September 22 through a short video on LEGO’s social channels. That teaser showed the 7 Dragon Balls, a clear hint at the set rumors that had been circling since March, though LEGO didn’t share set numbers, prices, or release dates.

Now, the wait for a real look is over. Leaker Brick Tap shared the first images of LEGO Icons set 11390 Shenron and Goku, with the box text noting it was found in store by one of its members.

According to the leak, the set will arrive on November 1, carry a $180 price tag, and include 1,764 pieces. The design is every bit the showpiece fans hoped for. Shenron rises in a sprawling pose above all 7 Dragon Balls, while the base features the original series’ iconic logo.

Goku isn’t just tossed in as an extra either. He comes as a minifigure riding his Flying Nimbus cloud beside the dragon, swinging his staff, and an earlier leaked image showed the figure complete with his tail.

His outfit is based on his orange-red gi, which doubles as the uniform of the Turtle School. The box also carries an 18+ label, marking it as a display piece aimed at adult collectors. The $180 figure is a little friendlier than some earlier reports suggested. Brick Tap previously pegged the set somewhere between $150 and $200, while another rumor claimed around 1,760 pieces and a price closer to $200.

ComicBook.com noted that the price is well in line with other LEGO releases this year that come with a similar piece count. For a model of this size, collectors may find it a fair deal. As exciting as the images are, the details should still be treated as provisional. Dexerto pointed out that the release information remains unconfirmed until LEGO formally unveils the set.

Still, the leak lines up closely with months of reports about the model. Earlier rumors had already described a Shenron diorama arriving in November with young Goku, the Dragon Balls and Nimbus clouds. Shenron is only the beginning. Brick Tap noted that while Dragon Ball gets an Icons set this year, ‘Dragon Ball Z’ is expected to get an entire LEGO theme next year.

A first wave of 9 sets is reportedly planned for April, with minifigures of Goku, Frieza, Vegeta and the entire Ginyu Force. That wave is also rumored to include an 18+ Kame House set. Some sources suggest at least one minifigure could come in every set of that wave. If the rumors hold, Dragon Ball could become one of LEGO’s biggest anime ventures yet.

Choosing the eternal dragon to launch the partnership makes a lot of sense. Shenron is one of the franchise’s most recognizable figures and, in many ways, acts as a narrative anchor for the whole story.

It also gives LEGO a dramatic display model that appeals to longtime fans, before the playsets arrive for a wider audience. With a November launch, it’s likely to be high on plenty of holiday wishlists.
