Jessica Alba (45) Trades Gowns for Power Tailoring at Tom Cruise’s ‘Digger’ Premiere
Tom Cruise’s ‘Digger’ premiere turned into one of Hollywood’s biggest red carpet nights of the season, and Jessica Alba was among the stars who stood out. The film held its U.S. premiere in Los Angeles on September 28, with a strong celebrity turnout. The event took place at Directors Village, where Warner Bros. rolled out the red carpet for its latest release.
The guest list was packed. Director Alejandro González Iñárritu attended alongside cast members Sandra Hüller, Jesse Plemons, and Riz Ahmed, while Kirsten Dunst, Kerry Condon, and Jerry and Linda Bruckheimer also stopped by. Producer Mary Parent was there as well to celebrate the film’s arrival.
In a sea of glamorous evening looks, Alba went in a sharper direction. The actress wore an oversized black double-breasted blazer with matching wide-leg trousers and a cropped black bandeau top. Photos shared by many outlets showed her smiling with 1 hand casually in her pocket, her long, voluminous caramel waves falling past her shoulders.
The proportions were the main strength of Alba’s outfit, according to CelebMafia. The roomy blazer and flowing trousers were balanced by the cropped bandeau, giving the monochrome look a modern, relaxed edge instead of a stiff corporate feel.
The setting helped the look stand out even more. CelebMafia also noted how the all-black tailoring contrasted with the vivid orange backdrop behind her. Alba finished the outfit with layered delicate necklaces, including a turquoise pendant, which added color without taking attention away from the suit.

The premiere celebrated a project that has been drawing plenty of attention. ‘Digger’ is Iñárritu’s first English-language film since ‘The Revenant,’ and it stars Cruise as Digger Rockwell. The official logline describes his character as the most powerful man in the world, who sets out on a desperate mission to prove he is humanity’s savior before the disaster he caused destroys everything.
The ensemble cast is packed with talent. Riz Ahmed, John Goodman, Sandra Hüller, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Jesse Plemons join Cruise, along with Emma D’Arcy and Sophie Wilde. Iñárritu wrote the screenplay with Alexander Dinelaris, Nicolás Giacobone, and Sabina Berman, and the film was shot entirely in VistaVision.

The movie also marks a new chapter for Cruise. ‘Digger’ is his first film since signing a deal with Warner Bros. to develop and produce theatrical films. The studio has promoted it with the tagline “a comedy of catastrophic proportions.”
Early reviews show just how divisive the film is. Screen Rant called it a bold swing and a tour-de-force for the cast, singling out Plemons as a potential awards contender. Consequence praised Cruise’s performance as mind-blowing and called it his most political movie yet.

Not everyone was impressed. The Hollywood Reporter felt Cruise’s performance began at such an abrasive level that it had nowhere left to go, and said Hüller was wasted in her role. DiscussingFilm argued that Cruise’s wild energy keeps an uneven story moving, even if the script feels hollow at times.
Moviefone gave the film a 90 out of 100 while predicting it would be one of the most divisive releases of the year. The same review noted the film’s reported budget of $130 million and a runtime of 2 hours and 9 minutes.

For Alba, the premiere was another reminder of how effortlessly she handles the red carpet. Instead of competing with the event’s biggest names through volume or sparkle, she chose clean tailoring that felt confident, modern, and easy to wear. It was one of the night’s most talked-about looks.
With ‘Digger’ opening in theaters and IMAX across North America on October 2, the premiere gave fans an early look at both the film’s star power and the fashion surrounding its release. As the Cruise buzz builds, Alba’s black suit remains one of the evening’s standout moments.
