Florence Pugh Saves Her Boldest Look for Last as ‘East of Eden’ Arrives on Netflix
Florence Pugh’s press tour for ‘East of Eden’ has felt less like a promotional run and more like a rolling fashion showcase. The actress, who stars as Cathy Ames and also serves as an executive producer, has worked with stylist Rebecca Corbin-Murray on look after look across 2 continents. Now, Florence Pugh’s ‘East of Eden’ premiere wardrobe has hit its dramatic peak just as the series lands on Netflix.
The Zoe Kazan-led adaptation of John Steinbeck’s novel premieres October 1. Pugh leads a cast that includes Christopher Abbott, Mike Faist, Hoon Lee, Joseph Zada, Joe Anders, Tracy Letts, Ciarán Hinds, and Martha Plimpton
Pugh closed out her press run at the New York premiere on Tuesday, September 30. Netflix shared photos from the evening on X with a countdown caption marking 6 hours until the series dropped, showing Pugh posing beneath a glowing “East of Eden” marquee. One shot captures her solo, while another shows her alongside 3 fellow guests in front of the theater.
For the occasion, she wore a custom Vivienne Westwood gown. The top half was chartreuse satin, featuring huge sculptural puffed shoulders that rose up around her neck and dramatic balloon sleeves. Beneath them, a corset bodice with a deep plunging neckline and a black zip down the center was covered in dark beaded embroidery resembling branches against the bright yellow-green fabric.

The lower half of the look, visible in Netflix’s photos, flows into a sleek, silvery satin skirt. Bvlgari jewels matched the drama of the gown, rounding out what may be the most theatrical outfit of the entire campaign.
The chartreuse moment caps off a remarkably varied lineup. Pugh kicked things off at a West Hollywood screening on September 17 in an embroidered yellow tulle Rodarte ensemble with Bvlgari jewelry. In London, she wore a voluminous black Rodarte gown that leaned into the gothic themes of the story.

Back in New York, the mood shifted. At a special screening at the Paley Center for Media on Sunday, September 27, she wore a white Erdem Resort 2027 dress with an exaggerated silhouette, silver Aquazzura sandals, and Bvlgari jewels. One critic noted that while the volume might divide opinion, those proportions are exactly what give the dress its character.
Pugh has leaned heavily on British fashion houses during her stateside stops. She paired the Erdem screening look with a Vivienne Westwood ensemble for her appearance on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’, with both outfits built around a black-and-white color scheme.

The series follows the intertwined destinies of the Trask and Hamilton families in California's Salinas Valley.

She returned to Erdem once again on September 29, attending an event at San Vicente in the West Village in a black satin bra and matching pleated skirt from the brand’s fall/winter 2026 collection. At the Vanity Fair after-party, she opted for a black top and gray pleated skirt with sequins at the waist and a bow at the side.
There’s a clear thread running through it all. The contrast between the gothic black of London and the light, almost bridal white of New York seemed to play with the different sides of Cathy, a morally complicated woman whose life is intertwined with generations of the Trask family. The chartreuse Westwood gown adds yet another layer, pairing a corseted period silhouette with a bold, modern color.
For a character Kazan has moved from the book’s dark periphery to its center, it’s fitting that Pugh has made sure all eyes stayed on her throughout the campaign. With the press tour wrapped, the focus now shifts entirely to the series itself. All 7 episodes are available to stream on Netflix, giving audiences their first full look at Pugh’s take on one of literature’s most notorious figures.
