Florence Pugh has never been afraid of a bold fashion statement, and her ‘East of Eden’ press tour has given her plenty of opportunities to prove it. Over the past few weeks, the actress has rotated through Rodarte, Erdem, Chloé, and Vivienne Westwood. Her final Florence Pugh ‘East of Eden’ premiere look, however, is the one fans can’t stop talking about.

The Netflix limited series, a new adaptation of John Steinbeck’s novel, spans multiple generations of the Trask family, with Pugh’s Cathy Ames becoming intertwined with brothers Adam and Charles Trask, played by Christopher Abbott and Mike Faist. All 7 episodes became available to stream on Thursday, October 1, making the New York premiere the last big red carpet before the show’s arrival.

The cast celebrated at The Plaza Hotel in New York City on Tuesday, September 30. Entertainment Tonight shared a short video from the carpet on X, declaring that Pugh was serving in silk. The clip shows the actress posing with her hair in an elegant updo, adjusting the dramatic sleeves of her gown as cameras flash.

Pugh wore a custom Vivienne Westwood creation, and the ET footage shows its silk skirt in a soft gray. The top half was chartreuse satin, with sculptural puffed shoulders standing up around her neck and balloon sleeves that flared out dramatically. Underneath, a corseted bodice with a plunging neckline and black zip carried dark beaded embroidery that resembled branches.

The accessories were just as considered as the gown. Pugh wore a gold Bulgari choker with a large green center stone surrounded by pink gems, picking up the colors of the bodice. The actress serves as a global ambassador for the brand alongside Anne Hathaway and Zendaya.

Bulgari has been a constant throughout the campaign. For her appearance on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’, Pugh paired a ruched black Vivienne Westwood cocktail dress with a Bulgari Tubogas choker and coordinated gold earrings.

What made this look stand out was the sudden burst of color. Where her earlier outfits leaned on black, white, and soft florals, the chartreuse brought a sudden jolt of energy. It also tied back to Westwood, since Pugh had already worn the British house on Fallon’s show and in a green striped shirt during her London press day.

Her loyalty to the label runs deep. She also chose Vivienne Westwood for the Emmy Awards earlier in the month, and the custom premiere gown felt like the natural finale of that relationship.

The reaction online has been overwhelmingly positive. On one fashion forum, commenters said the gown had unexpectedly sold them on yellow and gray as a pairing, while others admitted they questioned it at first glance before falling in love the longer they looked. Several praised the hairstyle and choker as the perfect finishing touches.

Not everyone was fully convinced by the overall silhouette, but even skeptics couldn’t deny the magic of the hue and the cut of the corset. Some fans simply called it the best dress they had ever seen on her.

Fashion critics have noticed how hard Pugh has worked this campaign. Tom + Lorenzo observed that she has hit the junket with real intensity, suggesting she’s aiming to make sure the series performs well while also positioning herself for awards attention. Stylist Rebecca Corbin-Murray has been the creative force behind the tour’s many looks.

With the series now streaming, the chartreuse Westwood gown serves as a memorable closing statement. It’s bold, a little theatrical, and impossible to ignore, much like the character Pugh plays.
