Daisy Edgar-Jones Gives the Corset Gown a Dreamy Lingerie Twist at the ‘Sense and Sensibility’ Sydney Premiere
Daisy Edgar-Jones has turned her latest press tour into a masterclass in modern period dressing. Over the past few weeks, the actress has hopped from London to Dublin to Sydney promoting her Jane Austen adaptation, with nearly every appearance becoming a fashion talking point. Her Daisy Edgar-Jones ‘Sense and Sensibility’ looks have consistently found clever ways to nod to the 19th century without ever feeling like costume.
The film itself has been years in the making. Edgar-Jones stars as Elinor Dashwood in director Georgia Oakley’s take on Austen’s first novel, with a screenplay by Diana Reid. The story follows sisters Elinor and Marianne Dashwood as they navigate love, loss, and financial uncertainty after being forced to leave their family estate in Sussex.
The actress arrived at the Australian premiere in Sydney on Thursday, October 1, wearing a floor-trailing Miu Miu gown. Photos shared on X by several outlets show her posing against a backdrop of wildflowers, her long auburn-brown hair worn straight with a full fringe.
The design blended structure and softness in an unexpected way. Her bodice featured a nude corset lined with vertical panels of multicolored sequins, while underneath sat a sheer slip embellished with clusters of diamond-like appliqués. W Magazine noted that her whisper-thin straps nodded to ’90s minimalism, while a visible off-white bodysuit evoked boudoir dressing.

The finer details added to the romance. Delicate bow ties sat at her shoulders, and a lace-up detail ran down the front of the corset, creating an airy, almost floating effect as the sheer skirt trailed behind her on the red carpet.
The Sydney look continued a running theme for the tour. With the help of stylist Dani Michelle, Edgar-Jones has consistently given classic period codes a modern remix. Just before the premiere, she wore an era-blending Alaïa ensemble to a photocall at Wendy’s Secret Garden, pairing a sheer wool turtleneck with an ivory, asymmetrical ruffled skirt.

It all started with a high-profile kickoff in London. For the world premiere at Leicester Square on September 15, she wore a custom champagne Vivienne Westwood gown designed by Andreas Kronthaler, featuring a plunging neckline, bow-tied straps, and a thigh-high slit. She paired it with an archival Boucheron moss agate pendant dating back to 1877.
Boucheron has been a constant throughout the campaign. For the Dublin premiere, Edgar-Jones wore a silky Stella McCartney resort 2027 gown with plumed embellishments, paired with $33,800 Boucheron earrings. WWD observed that the look evoked one of the film’s anticipated ball scenes, in which characters dance in all-white gowns with feathery accessories.

Dublin also brought a sweet coordinated moment. Co-star Caitríona Balfe’s black-and-white look, with its feathery appliqués, complemented Edgar-Jones’ gown and created a mother-daughter dressing moment for the onscreen pair.

The fashion moments arrive as the film rolls out worldwide. ‘Sense and Sensibility’ opened in UK theaters on September 25, with a US release set for October 16. The cast also includes Esmé Creed-Miles, Frank Dillane, George MacKay, and Fiona Shaw.

The project carries plenty of weight, too. Austen’s novel has been adapted many times, most notably in Ang Lee’s 1995 film starring Emma Thompson as Elinor and Kate Winslet as Marianne. Edgar-Jones’ version arrives with a fresh creative team from Working Title and Focus Features. With the US premiere still ahead, fans can likely expect at least one more show-stopping look before the tour wraps.
