The second episode of the third season is scheduled for October 9, one week after the October 2 premiere. New episodes are expected every Friday throughout the fall season, which gives viewers a steady weekly rhythm to plan around.

For anyone tracking the release date, time and streaming details of ‘The Apothecary Diaries’, most of the picture is settled, though a few points are still projections. The new story follows Maomao and Jinshi as they investigate a mysterious woman and signs of a possible famine. Here is what is known so far about the next installment.

Second Episode Release Date and Weekly Schedule

GamesRadar’s current schedule places the second episode on October 9, following the premiere on October 2. That makes the new episode a Friday release, in line with the show’s long-running slot.

FandomWire has published a full projected calendar built on a first half of 12 episodes with no breaks. That table lists the second episode on October 9, but it stresses that later dates could change if the production team announces a break or a different episode count.

The wider structure of the run is split into two parts. GamesRadar reports that the season is confirmed at 24 episodes, with 12 airing from October through December before a pause and another 12 arriving from spring 2027. Anime News Network reported that the second part is set to premiere in April 2027.

Longtime viewers will recognize the weekly pattern. The previous season premiered on January 10, 2025 on Nippon TV’s Friday Anime Night block and ran for two consecutive cours, which are quarters of a year, until July 4.

Release Time in Japan and on Crunchyroll

In Japan, the new season began on Friday, October 2 at 11 PM JST, according to FandomWire, which cites the official website. Anime News Network noted that the first cour airs on NTV and 29 affiliated channels.

For international audiences, the timing is more useful to pin down. FandomWire reports that Crunchyroll set its episodes to arrive at 8 AM PT, and its table lists the second episode at 11 AM Eastern and 8 AM Pacific on October 9. GamesRadar described Crunchyroll’s exact time as still listed as to be announced when it wrote, but it anticipated a similar drop of around 8 AM Pacific, 11 AM Eastern and 3 PM BST.

The US times shift later in the year because Daylight Saving Time ends on November 1. That change does not affect the second episode, but it will move later slots by an hour for American viewers. GamesRadar suggests using a time zone converter to find the local time in other regions.

Where to Watch the Anime Around the World

GamesRadar states that the series streams exclusively on Crunchyroll, with all three seasons available in North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, CIS and the Indian subcontinent. That covers most major markets for viewers outside Japan.

Inside Japan, the episodes air on Nippon TV and its affiliated stations during the Friday Anime Night block. The broadcast arrives first, and the international stream follows soon after.

Dubbed viewing is worth a note. Crunchyroll streamed the previous season as it aired and also offered an English dub. One outlet reports, however, that the dub airtime for the new season remains to be announced.

Wikipedia notes that Netflix has also carried the title in various regions. For the new episodes, though, the current listings point to Crunchyroll as the place to look.

Preview of What the Story Brings Next

The new run follows the Shi Clan rebellion, with Maomao back at the Verdigris House in the pleasure district working as an apothecary. Jinshi has returned to his true position as the Emperor’s younger brother and is facing the responsibilities that come with his royal status.

The story begins when Maomao notices something unusual during a meal at the Verdigris House, while Jinshi tries to make sense of a warning Loulan left in the previous season about a possible disaster. Her investigation leads to a worrying agricultural problem, and rumours also begin to circulate about a mysterious woman stirring up trouble.

The cast and music are also taking shape. Reina Ueda joins the third season as Bai Niangniang, a pale and mysterious nymph, and Eve performs the ending theme titled AIYOU. The opening theme is by Yorushika, and the staff also revealed a new key visual and character visuals.

The coverage reviewed here does not detail the second episode specifically, so the premise above describes the opening stretch of the season as a whole. With rumours of a mysterious woman and a warning about a looming disaster driving the early story, do you think Maomao will connect those two threads by the end of the first cour, and which clue from the second episode do you expect to matter most?
