In the film, she plays Emma Kent, a fitness influencer who dreams of matching the success of her idol, social media star Kat Highbrook. When an encounter with Kat goes horribly wrong, Emma is pushed into a dangerous arrangement with an obsessive fan.
The project is based on Magnus von Horn’s Polish film of the same name, which was in official selection at the 2020 Cannes Film Festival. AGC Studios has come aboard to finance and co-produce, though no release date has been confirmed yet.
There’s no indication the new selfie is connected to the film, but the sporty aesthetic certainly suits a story set in the world of fitness influencers. ‘Sweat’ is just one part of a packed slate. De Armas is set to star alongside Jennifer Connelly in Apple TV+’s ‘Safe Houses’, a drama from showrunner Gideon Raff, where she plays a fugitive agent named Sofia Jiménez.
She’s also attached to the Apple TV+ series ‘Bananas’ with Oscar Isaac, Doug Liman’s sci-fi horror film ‘Deeper’ with Tom Cruise, and the espionage thriller ‘Impunity’ opposite Sebastian Stan. None of these projects currently have confirmed release dates.
