It has been a whirlwind year for Milly Alcock. The Australian actress, born in Sydney in 2000, finally stepped into the spotlight as a franchise lead this summer, and she has been keeping fans engaged with a steady run of striking editorial shoots ever since.

Fashion has become a big part of that new chapter. Just a week ago, Alcock showed off an edgy side as the cover star of the fifth issue of Noise Magazine, posing in high-fashion pieces from Dior, and earlier this year she was featured in a Vogue Australia editorial titled “Milly Rising.”

Now she has added another set of portraits to the collection. New black-and-white images of Alcock, photographed by John Armour, were shared on social media on October 4, showing a quieter, more timeless side of the 26-year-old star.

The 2 portraits rely on simplicity. Alcock wears a black jacket over a ruffled black blouse, with her long blonde hair falling loosely around her shoulders in soft, slightly tousled waves.

In the first shot, she leans toward the camera with a playful half-smile, while the second captures her standing with a more composed, direct gaze. The black-and-white treatment gives both images a classic, almost old-Hollywood quality. It’s a noticeable shift from the bolder, more daring tone of her Noise Magazine cover. Together, the shoots show how comfortably she moves between edgy and elegant.

Alcock’s rise has been years in the making. After making her TV debut as a teenager in 2014, she appeared in her first feature film, ‘The School’, in 2018 and later starred in ‘Upright’, returning for its second series in 2022.

Her breakthrough came when she was cast as young Princess Rhaenyra in ‘House of the Dragon’, a role that earned her critical acclaim. She later appeared as Simone in ‘Sirens’ before landing the role of Kara Zor-El in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe.

After an uncredited cameo in 2025’s ‘Superman’, Alcock led ‘Supergirl’, directed by Craig Gillespie and based on the comic miniseries ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ by Tom King and Bilquis Evely. The film also starred Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, David Corenswet and Jason Momoa.

‘Supergirl’ had a tough run after its June 26 release. The film drew mixed reviews and grossed $126.4 million against a production budget of $170 million to $186 million, making it a box office disappointment.

Alcock, however, emerged with her reputation intact. The Hollywood Reporter named her a “winner” despite the film’s struggles, noting that nearly every review praised her as terrific and fun as Kara Zor-El, and its chief critic David Rooney singled out her hard-edged performance even while panning the film.

That praise felt especially meaningful after the trolling she faced from toxic corners of internet fandom ahead of the release. For many fans, the strength of her performance proved she was the right choice all along.

With ‘Supergirl’ behind her, Alcock seems focused on building a versatile public image. Her recent run of magazine covers and portrait sessions presents her less as a superhero and more as a rising leading lady with real range. The John Armour portraits fit neatly into that strategy. Understated and elegant, they let the actress’s natural charisma take center stage without the need for a cape.
