Mikey Madison and Jeremy Allen White Meet Their Real-Life Counterparts at ‘The Social Reckoning’ New York Premiere
Aaron Sorkin’s return to the world of Facebook has been one of the most anticipated films of the fall. More than 15 years after ‘The Social Network’, Sorkin wrote and directed ‘The Social Reckoning’, a companion piece rather than a sequel that dramatizes the 2021 Facebook leak and the whistleblower behind it.
The film has already made a splash overseas, with premiere screenings in London and Paris. On Sunday, October 4, it was New York’s turn, as the cast gathered at Regal Union Square for the film’s US premiere.
The night produced one especially memorable moment. Variety shared a video of stars Mikey Madison and Jeremy Allen White posing on the red carpet alongside the real people they play, Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen and investigative journalist Jeff Horwitz.
The short clip shows the 4 standing together in front of the film’s poster wall. Madison glittered in a floor-length silver gown, while White wore a navy suit, with Horwitz in a grey suit and Haugen in a white top and black skirt.

The clip quickly took off online. One fan joked that White looked like he didn’t want the photo taken at all. Seeing the actors alongside their real counterparts underscores just how recent this story is. Unlike ‘The Social Network’, which covered Facebook’s litigious origins, this film tackles events from only 5 years ago.
‘The Social Reckoning’ follows Haugen, a young Facebook engineer, as she enlists the help of Horwitz, a Wall Street Journal reporter, to blow the whistle on the social network’s most guarded secrets. Haugen leaked thousands of pages of internal Facebook records to the Journal, leading to the 2021 investigation known as the Facebook Files.

That series of stories alleged that the social media giant was prioritizing profits over safety and hiding its own research from investors and the public. The film turns that real-life investigation into what its marketing calls a true David and Goliath story.
Jeremy Strong plays Mark Zuckerberg, stepping into the role Jesse Eisenberg played in 2010. The cast also includes Wunmi Mosaku as a crisis PR advisor, plus Betty Gilpin, Billy Magnussen and Bill Burr.
The film brings together serious awards pedigree. Madison won Best Actress for ‘Anora’, White is a Golden Globe and Emmy winner for ‘The Bear’, and Strong earned an Oscar nomination for playing Roy Cohn in ‘The Apprentice’.

Behind the camera, Sorkin produces alongside Todd Black, Peter Rice and Stuart Besser. Jeff Cronenweth handles cinematography, and the project entered development in June 2025 before officially taking the title ‘The Social Reckoning’ that September.
The original film set a high bar. ‘The Social Network’, directed by David Fincher from Sorkin’s script, earned more than $226 million globally and received 8 Oscar nominations, winning 3. ‘The Social Reckoning’ is rated R and runs 1 hour and 52 minutes. Columbia Pictures releases the film in theaters nationwide on October 9.
With the real Haugen and Horwitz giving the production their public support on the red carpet, the film heads into release with a strong sense of authenticity. Now audiences will get to decide whether Sorkin’s latest look at Facebook can match the impact of his first.
