The new season of ‘FBI’ premieres Monday, Oct. 5, 2026, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS, with episodes also streaming on Paramount+. The return follows the Season 8 finale on May 18, 2026, which ended on a cliffhanger.

‘FBI’ Season 9 comes with several changes for the Dick Wolf drama. The team must operate without one of its leads, and the season opener introduces a new partner for Maggie Bell. The first night also includes a crossover with ‘CIA’.

‘FBI’ Season 9 Release Date and Where to Watch

CBS lists the ninth season premiere for Monday, Oct. 5, from 8 to 9 p.m. ET/PT. Paramount+ Premium subscribers can stream it live and on demand, while Essential subscribers can watch on demand the day after it airs.

Before the date was set, outlets could only estimate. Hello Magazine noted in May that an October return was expected but not yet announced. The Popverse had pointed to late September based on network history.

The season was never in doubt. CBS gave the series a multi season renewal in April 2024, during its sixth season, and that order runs through Season 9. CBS entertainment president Amy Reisenbach said at the time that the network’s all ‘FBI’ Tuesday lineup was a powerful force on its schedule.

The show also has a dependable fall track record. It has skipped a September or October premiere only twice, in 2020 because of COVID and in 2024 because of the writers and actors strikes.

Maggie Bell’s New Partner in the Season Opener

The biggest story heading into the premiere is the shift in the central partnership. Omar Adom “OA” Zidan, played by Zeeko Zaki, remains undercover, so Maggie Bell, played by Missy Peregrym, works with Isaiah Green, played by Roland Buck III of ‘Chicago Med’.

The premiere follows Maggie as she tries to build a working relationship with her new partner. That sets up a different dynamic for a show that has leaned on the bond between its two leads. The Season 8 finale left fans wondering about OA’s status, and the new season is expected to address the fallout.

The case itself is called “Rendition.” CBS describes a young traveler found shot dead in a state park, with the team discovering she witnessed the execution of a person involved in a top secret government sponsored project.

The ‘CIA’ Crossover Opening the New Season

The premiere night crossover links ‘FBI’ Season 9 with the second season of ‘CIA’. ‘CIA’ Deputy Chief of Station Nikki Reynard, played by Necar Zadegan, appears in the ‘FBI’ premiere and helps with an investigation involving international and intelligence elements.

The exchange runs both ways. ‘FBI’ Special Agent Stuart Scola crosses into the ‘CIA’ Season 2 premiere, titled “The Deep,” where he helps Bill Goodman and the CIA team with an operation. With ‘FBI’ airing right before ‘CIA’, CBS has built a two hour block of connected Dick Wolf dramas.

The crossover also reflects how the franchise now looks at CBS. The network has canceled two earlier spinoffs, ‘FBI: Most Wanted’ and ‘FBI: International’, while ‘CIA’ earned a second season.

Season 9 Cast and the Monday Night Schedule Shift

Peregrym returns as Maggie Bell alongside Jeremy Sisto as Assistant Special Agent in Charge Jubal Valentine, John Boyd as Stuart Scola, and Juliana Aidén Martinez as Eva Ramos. Isobel Castille oversees the team as Special Agent in Charge, and Ramos, a former prosecutor, is now Scola’s partner. Premiere photos also show Shpend Xani appearing as Dominick Ballaci.

The schedule has changed as well. The drama moves up an hour from last season to 8 p.m. Eastern. CBS is skipping Monday comedies after ‘The Neighborhood’ ended following eight seasons and the freshman comedy ‘DMV’ was canceled.

The earlier slot places ‘FBI’ at the front of a Monday lineup built around Dick Wolf procedurals. With OA still undercover and Maggie adjusting to Isaiah Green, do you think the team can hold together without its longtime partnership at the center of ‘FBI’ Season 9?
