‘CIA’ Season 2 Episode 2 Release Date, Time, Where to Watch and Preview
The second episode of ‘CIA’ is the next stop for viewers following the Dick Wolf spinoff after its move to the fall. The new season premiered Monday, October 5, on CBS and continues to air after ‘FBI’, which is heading into its ninth season. That timing gives the series a noticeably bigger platform than it had during its first run.
Here is what is known about the release date, air time, streaming options and story for “Dead Drop,” the follow up to the premiere. The official synopsis centers on a Russian spy who has been poisoned by his own comrades.
Release Date for the Second Episode
New episodes of ‘CIA’ air weekly on Mondays on CBS. With the premiere having aired on October 5, that places the second episode on Monday, October 12. One episode guide lists “Dead Drop” with a timestamp of October 13 at 2:00am, which appears to reflect a UK based listing for the same Monday broadcast.
The weekly rollout matters more this year because of the size of the order. The second season is currently planned for 22 episodes, a significant increase from the 12 that made up the first season. Showrunner Mike Weiss is expected to use the extra room to dig deeper into the world of the agency and its characters.
The longer run follows a quick turnaround in the show’s early life. CBS renewed ‘CIA’ on March 23, just ahead of the fifth episode of its debut season. The first season finale aired on May 18, and the second season was announced for the fall.
Air Time on CBS
‘CIA’ airs Mondays at 9 PM ET/PT on CBS. Viewers in the Central time zone can tune in at 8 PM.
That is an earlier slot than the one the show held before. During its first season, ‘CIA’ aired Mondays at 10 PM ET/PT. The fall schedule now runs ‘FBI’ at 8 PM, ‘CIA’ at 9 PM and ‘Harlan Coben’s Final Twist’ at 10 PM.
The promotion reflects how well the series performed out of the gate. The premiere was watched by 8.4 million multiplatform viewers within seven days, and time period viewership improved 39 percent over the previous fall through the first three episodes. The show also won its timeslot against ‘The Rookie’ on ABC and ‘The Voice’ on NBC.
Where to Watch on Paramount+
Viewers have two main options for catching the second episode. It airs live on CBS and also streams on Paramount+. Paramount+ Premium subscribers can stream live as the episode airs, while Paramount+ Essential subscribers can watch the day after.
Anyone who needs to catch up has an easy path. All of the first season is available on Paramount+. That helps given how much the finale left unresolved.
The finale revealed that Colin Glass’s former lover and partner, Toni Napier, played by Angela Sarafyan, had not died in an explosion in the Philippines a year earlier. Bill Goodman, meanwhile, turned down a promotion to Cleveland. The main cast includes Tom Ellis, Nick Gehlfuss, Natalee Linez and Necar Zadegan.
Preview of the “Dead Drop” Episode
In “Dead Drop,” a Russian spy poisoned by his own comrades offers to help the team neutralize a threat against American assets in Russia. His price is the dying spy’s final wish, which is revenge. The premise points to a case with international stakes and a clock running against a desperate informant.
It follows a premiere with its own personal threads. In “The Deep,” the team tracks a cartel fixer in New York, and Bill returns to work after the passing of his father and makes a shocking discovery. The team also enlists FBI Special Agent Stuart Scola.
The larger arc around Toni is likely to keep running underneath the weekly cases. She ended the first season in the CIA’s custody, and the plan is for her to be part of the new season’s story while proving herself to the agency and to Colin. The showrunner has also indicated that Deputy Chief of Station Nikki Reynard will return more than once when cases need CIA expertise.
For now, “Dead Drop” gives the series a chance to show how Colin and Bill handle a case built on a spy’s last request for revenge, and it will be interesting to see whether Colin’s wariness about Toni shapes how he trusts the dying Russian informant, so which side of that call would you have taken in the comments.
