Teyonah Parris Dazzles in a Crystal Lattice Dress at the ‘Matchbox: The Movie’ Premiere
Apple’s ‘Matchbox: The Movie’ has been rolling out the red carpet across 2 continents. The cast traveled to Mexico City for a special screening on October 1, then brought the celebration to New York for the film’s world premiere at AMC Lincoln Square on Monday, October 5.
Among those turning heads was Teyonah Parris, who plays Charmaine in the action comedy. Based on Mattel’s iconic toy cars, the film follows undercover CIA agent Sean, played by John Cena, whose return home pulls his childhood friends into a chaotic international mission to save the world.
Parris made sure all eyes were on her in New York. Photos captured by Getty and shared by Deadline show the actress beaming on the carpet in a strapless black midi dress covered in a sparkling silver diamond lattice pattern.
The dress delivered maximum shine with a sleek, fitted silhouette. Its crystal grid pattern caught the light from every angle, while the strapless neckline kept the look clean and elegant.
Parris paired it with strappy black heels and voluminous, bouncy curls. Striking a confident pose with one hand on her hip, she flashed a wide smile in front of the film’s metallic ‘Matchbox’ backdrop.
It’s not the first time she has made a memorable fashion statement at a premiere. Parris previously mixed metals in a Gaurav Gupta look for the LA premiere of ‘They Cloned Tyrone’.
Born in Hopkins, South Carolina, in 1987, Parris has built a remarkably varied career. She played Dawn Chambers on AMC’s ‘Mad Men’, the first major African American character on the series, before landing her breakthrough in 2014’s ‘Dear White People’.

She went on to work with Spike Lee in ‘Chi-Raq’ and star in ‘If Beale Street Could Talk’ and Nia DaCosta’s ‘Candyman’. Marvel fans know her best as Monica Rambeau, a role she played in ‘WandaVision’ before reprising it in ‘The Marvels’ in November 2023.

Parris has also expanded beyond acting. In August 2024, she launched her own hair extensions line, blūm by Teyonah. Parris joined ‘Matchbox’ in December 2024, alongside Sam Richardson and Arturo Castro. The film reunites a group of childhood friends, with Jessica Biel playing Aimee, Richardson as Crosby, and Castro as Ted.
Their shared history gives the story a comic and emotional backbone that a conventional spy team would lack. As the friends get pulled into Sean’s mission, they become an unlikely field team trying to stop a global disaster.

The supporting cast includes Danai Gurira as Helen, Corey Stoll as Mosier, Bill Camp as Smalley, and Golshifteh Farahani as Robbie. Randeep Hooda also appears in the film. Sam Hargrave, the filmmaker behind the ‘Extraction’ movies, directed from a script by David Coggeshall. Production took place in Budapest, Morocco, and Slovakia, with Pedro Luque serving as cinematographer and Alex Belcher composing the music.
‘Matchbox: The Movie’ premieres globally on Apple TV on Friday, October 9. If Parris’ premiere look is any indication, the cast is ready to make a big splash when the film finally reaches audiences.
