‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Star Simu Liu Marries Allison Hsu in a Romantic French Ceremony
Simu Liu has had a whirlwind few years. The ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ star became Marvel’s first Asian superhero lead, played a Ken doll in 2023’s ‘Barbie’ and made his Broadway debut earlier this year in ‘Oh, Mary!’ alongside Tony winner John Cameron Mitchell.
Through it all, marketing director Allison Hsu has been by his side. The couple went public with their relationship on Instagram on November 20, 2022, and made their red carpet debut later that month at the Los Angeles premiere of ‘Violent Night’.
Now they’ve officially taken the next step. The 37-year-old actor and Hsu, 30, tied the knot in France over the weekend of October 3, according to TMZ, which was first to report the wedding, with a source later confirming the marriage to People.
France holds special meaning for the couple. Liu proposed in Paris in May 2025, setting up a romantic scene with the Eiffel Tower and a candlelit floral display in the background. They announced the engagement on Instagram on May 11, 2025, sharing photos from a Paris balcony as Hsu showed off her diamond ring.
Hsu’s caption promised that it was them forever, while Liu wrote a sweet tribute about choosing her forever through weekends in Paris, day trips to Palm Springs, and long nights on set. Liu later told Entertainment Tonight that he went full creative director for the proposal. He worked with a team of professionals to bring his vision to life.
The engagement came with a famous bonus. During an appearance on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’, Liu revealed that he had contacted Taylor Swift’s team because Hsu is a devoted fan.
Swift’s music had played a special role in the early days of their relationship. The superstar responded with a custom video congratulating the couple, a gesture Liu said left his fiancée completely speechless.
Liu opened up about wedding planning in February while preparing for his Broadway debut. He joked to People that the process was wonderful until he saw the prices. Still, he described the planning as relatively painless and joyful overall. The couple agreed on one non-negotiable: great music.
Liu said they viewed the wedding as a party with their best friends in the world. That spirit appears to have guided their intimate French celebration. Liu has always spoken warmly about Hsu. In December 2022, he described her to People as a passionate fighter, and in November 2023 he said finding her felt like a breath of relief, adding that they were tremendously happy together.
He has also credited her with changing his life. Their journey from a public Instagram debut to a wedding in France has played out with plenty of joy for fans to follow along. Professionally, Liu has a big December ahead.
He was filming ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ when he got engaged, and the Marvel crossover arrives in theaters on December 18. For now, the newlyweds are celebrating a milestone year in the making. Judging by the response online, fans couldn’t be happier for the couple.
