‘Chicago Med’ Season 12 Premiere Date, Start Time and Where to Watch the New Season
‘Chicago Med’ returns to NBC on Wednesday, October 7, at 8 p.m. Eastern, anchoring One Chicago Wednesdays once again. New episodes will then stream the following day on Peacock. The return follows a finale that left several storylines open at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center.
For viewers planning their night, the ‘Chicago Med’ release date, start time and viewing options are all confirmed. NBC has also revealed the title of the premiere, “Shots Fired,” along with a first look at the chaos waiting in the E.D. Here is what to know before the new season begins.
‘Chicago Med’ Release Date and Start Time
The first episode arrives on Wednesday, October 7, at 8 p.m. Eastern and 7 p.m. Central. That keeps the series in its familiar slot. NBC announced the date as part of its full fall schedule.
The rest of the franchise follows in the usual order, with ‘Chicago Fire’ at 9 p.m. and ‘Chicago P.D.’ at 10 p.m. The three premieres give NBC a full night of One Chicago programming on the same evening.
NBC renewed the series on March 27, which was sooner than the previous pickup, announced in May 2025. Production on the new season was scheduled to begin July 29 in Chicago, where the show is filmed entirely.
Where to Watch ‘Chicago Med’ on NBC and Peacock
Viewers in the United States can watch the premiere live on NBC at 8 p.m. That makes broadcast the simplest option for anyone who wants to see the episode as it airs.
Those who miss the broadcast can stream the episode on Peacock the next day. The next day streaming window applies to new episodes throughout the season.
TV Guide notes that Peacock subscribers can also watch live online in most areas. For newcomers, the series launched in November 2015 and was introduced through a backdoor pilot on ‘Chicago Fire’ earlier that year.
‘Chicago Med’ Season Preview and the Fight Over Goodwin’s Job
The new season will skip ahead by about three months, which allows several finale storylines to develop off screen. The premiere opens with gunshots at a wedding that send the E.D. into chaos, while Goodwin faces trouble of her own.
The central question is whether Director Sharon Goodwin can save her position after board member Miranda Lewis came after her over an allegedly leaked set of psychiatric files. Showrunner Allen MacDonald has told NBC Insider that Miranda and Goodwin are expected to face off directly.
In an interview with TV Insider, Jessy Schram says the doctors and nurses are firmly behind Goodwin. Caitlin Lenox, meanwhile, will not appear in the first five episodes. The showrunner has also said the friendship between Goodwin and Dr. Charles will cool.
The Hannah and Archer Storyline After the Finale
The Season 11 finale ended with Hannah and Archer welcoming a baby daughter after a dangerous hostage incident, and Archer then confessed that he is in love with Hannah. That moment sets the emotional baseline for the new season.
The premiere brings Hannah back to the E.D. as she decides whether she is ready to return to work after maternity leave. NBC’s photos suggest she stops by so her daughter can see Archer at work and ends up pulled into a medical case.
MacDonald says the pair are still working out what shape their relationship should take. He also says Archer is essentially living at Hannah’s house because of the baby. Will Hannah step back into the E.D. for good, or does Goodwin’s fight with the board deserve to take over the new season, and where do you want the show to put its focus?
