Apple TV’s ‘Matchbox The Movie’ Cast (with Photos)

The cast of ‘Matchbox The Movie’ brings together action stars, comedy favorites and prestige television names for an Apple Original Film from Skydance Media and Mattel Studios. The film streams globally on Apple TV on October 9, with Sam Hargrave directing from a screenplay by David Coggeshall.

The story follows a group of childhood friends whose lives are upended when Sean, their long absent former leader and an undercover CIA agent, returns to their small town. John Cena and Jessica Biel headlined a San Diego Comic Con panel in Hall H alongside Sam Richardson, Teyonah Parris and Arturo Castro. Here is a closer look at who plays whom.

John Cena

John Cena leads the film as Sean Walker, a former soldier and spy caught in the middle of a national security crisis. He moved from a career in professional wrestling to major Hollywood films, and he played the title hero in the series ‘Peacemaker’ after debuting the role in ‘The Suicide Squad’. The film asks him to combine physical presence with comedic timing.

Jessica Biel

Jessica Biel plays Aimee, one of Sean’s trusted childhood companions. She first gained wide attention as Mary Camden on ‘7th Heaven’ and later earned an Emmy nomination for executive producing and starring in ‘The Sinner’. Her film credits include ‘The Illusionist’ and ‘Blade Trinity’.

Sam Richardson

Arturo Castro

Arturo Castro plays Ted, rounding out the core team of longtime friends on the run. The Guatemalan actor became widely known for ‘Broad City’ and later created and headlined the sketch series ‘Alternatino with Arturo Castro’. He has also appeared in ‘Narcos’, ‘The Menu’ and ‘Road House’.

Teyonah Parris

Teyonah Parris takes on the role of Charmaine, working alongside the group as the espionage plot escalates. She broke through as Dawn Chambers in ‘Mad Men’ and plays Monica Rambeau in ‘WandaVision’ and ‘The Marvels’. She also led ‘Candyman’ and ‘They Cloned Tyrone’.

Danai Gurira

Apple’s film listing names Danai Gurira as Helen. She is widely known as Michonne Hawthorne in ‘The Walking Dead’ and as General Okoye in ‘Black Panther’. She is also a Tony nominated playwright for the stage production ‘Eclipsed’.

Corey Stoll

Animation World Network’s report on the trailer teases that the villain is played by an actor named Corey, which in this ensemble points to Stoll. He earned a Golden Globe nomination for playing Peter Russo in ‘House of Cards’. His film credits include Darren Cross in ‘Ant-Man’ and Ernest Hemingway in ‘Midnight in Paris’.

Bill Camp

Apple’s listing names Bill Camp as Smalley. Camp is an acclaimed character actor who earned an Emmy nomination for the miniseries ‘The Night Of’. His films include ‘Lincoln’, ‘Joker’ and ’12 Years a Slave’, and he also appeared in ‘The Queen’s Gambit’.

Randeep Hooda

Randeep Hooda is listed in the role of Mustafa. Variety reported that he reunited with Hargrave for a second collaboration after ‘Extraction’, with production underway in Budapest when he joined. He is an established leading man in Indian cinema, with praised performances in ‘Highway’ and ‘Sarbjit’.

Golshifteh Farahani

Apple’s listing names Golshifteh Farahani as Robbie. She previously worked with Hargrave as the mercenary Nik Khan in ‘Extraction’ and ‘Extraction 2’, and the Iranian French actress also starred in ‘About Elly’ and ‘Paterson’. Fans of Hargrave’s ‘Extraction’ films are welcome to say in the comments whether Farahani and Hooda feel like natural fits for a Matchbox adventure with Cena at the center.
