Robert De Niro has never shied away from speaking his mind, and the Oscar-winning actor has become one of Hollywood’s more vocal supporters of Jeffrey Epstein’s survivors. Now the 83-year-old star has turned his attention to Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, the former British prince whose friendship with the convicted sex offender has followed him for years.

De Niro’s latest comments came during a public gathering in New York. On Monday evening, he and Rosie O’Donnell joined Epstein survivors in Washington Square Park, where speakers called for the release of more unredacted government files and urged people to vote in the upcoming midterms.

While there, De Niro was asked by The Sun whether Andrew should publicly apologize and take accountability for his friendship with Epstein. The actor agreed that he should, saying everyone who was involved ought to, and adding that Andrew should drop his ongoing lawsuit.

De Niro’s remarks land at a pivotal moment for the former Duke of York. In February, Andrew was arrested by Thames Valley Police on suspicion of misconduct in public office, following the release of the Epstein files in the United States.

The arrest took place on his 66th birthday, after detectives searched his cottage on the Sandringham estate and Royal Lodge in Windsor. Scrutiny had intensified after emails in the released files reportedly showed official documents being shared with Epstein while Andrew served as the UK’s trade envoy.

Andrew is now challenging the lawfulness of the search warrants used at both properties and has asked for them to be quashed. He was reportedly set to appear in court on Thursday, and some reports claim he is pleased with his decision to take legal action.

The legal battle follows a sharp decline in Andrew’s public standing. In November 2025, King Charles formally removed his right to the title of Prince and the style of Royal Highness through Letters Patent.

His connection to Epstein has been a source of controversy for years. In February 2022, he settled a civil lawsuit brought by Virginia Giuffre, paying an undisclosed amount and donating to her charity while denying wrongdoing and admitting no liability. Andrew has consistently denied the allegations against him.

De Niro’s comments went beyond Andrew. At the same event, he criticized the US Department of Justice for failing to release more unredacted Epstein files, describing that failure as evil.

The actor has no direct connection to the former royal. However, he has spoken up in support of the survivors before, joining a growing group of public figures pressing for greater transparency.

O’Donnell has also been a consistent presence in the campaign. In September, she met with a group of survivors and shared the conversation on Instagram, offering them a heartfelt apology on behalf of the country.

That meeting came after the Justice Department announced it would seek a new ruling to overturn a court-ordered release of unredacted Epstein files. The move angered many survivors and their supporters, who have been calling for full disclosure.

Monday’s gathering placed survivors’ voices at the forefront. Sharlene Rochard was among those who spoke, sharing her experience publicly and saying she refused to stay silent or feel ashamed.

For De Niro, lending his name to the cause appears to be about amplifying those voices. His comments about Andrew have since spread widely, putting fresh international attention on the former prince’s legal fight.

With Andrew’s challenge now before the courts and pressure mounting in the US for more disclosures, the story is far from over. De Niro’s intervention ensures the conversation about accountability will continue on both sides of the Atlantic.
