Few villains in comic book history are as instantly recognizable as Doctor Doom. With his hooded green cloak and cold metal mask, Victor von Doom has been a towering presence in Marvel’s pages for decades, and fans have long waited to see him done justice on the big screen.

That wait is nearly over. Robert Downey Jr., who launched the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Iron Man, stunned fans when he was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con to be returning in an entirely new role as Doom, appearing on stage in the character’s mask and green cloak.

Now New York fans are getting their own close-up look at the villain. Doctor Doom’s costume from ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is on display at New York Comic Con, standing tall at Marvel’s booth inside the Javits Center.

The display shows Doom in full, comics-inspired glory. A long green hooded cloak drapes over his shoulders, fastened at the chest with a chain clasp, while the iconic metallic mask peers out from beneath the hood.

Underneath, the costume features a fitted green tunic, a wide belt with a metal buckle, gloves, and sturdy boots. Set against a moody backdrop of fiery clouds, the suit looks every bit the ruler of Latveria.

The image quickly spread online after Cosmic Marvel shared it on X, with fans praising how closely the design matches Doom’s classic comic book silhouette. Doom isn’t standing alone. The costume is part of Marvel’s ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ costume experience at the convention, which also features suits and props first shown at San Diego Comic-Con.

Among them are Red Guardian’s suit, Sam Wilson’s Captain America costume, and a Sentinel head. Bringing the collection east gives New York fans their first chance to see the pieces in person. This isn’t the first time Doom’s armor has made a public appearance.

At San Diego Comic-Con in July, Marvel swapped out another display at its booth for the full costume worn by Downey, just hours before its Hall H panel. Then, at D23 in August, Marvel unveiled a different look entirely.

That alternate suit featured a more neutral appearance, with the metallic mask still covered by Doom’s signature hooded cape, offering a contrast to the battle-ready armor shown in San Diego.

Fans got an even earlier hint at the design back in September 2025, when promotional art appeared at a Walt Disney Studios marketing expo in Shanghai. Many noted at the time that the look appeared remarkably faithful to the comics.

The display arrives as excitement for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ continues to build. Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, the film brings together the Avengers, Wakandans, New Avengers, Fantastic Four and X-Men from different universes to face Doom.

It opens in theaters on December 18 and serves as the first part of a 2-film finale for the Multiverse Saga, followed by ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’. Downey’s Doom is expected to be the primary antagonist across both films.

Online, fans have overwhelmingly praised the costume. Many called it comic-book perfection, highlighting the rich green cloak and the classic mask. Others said seeing the suit up close only heightened their anticipation for Downey’s performance. With just over 2 months to go, Doom’s reign over Marvel’s convention floors shows no sign of ending.
