Clark Gregg Shares Marvel’s ‘Zodiac’ Logo, and ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Fans Are Already Theorizing
For 7 seasons, ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ gave Marvel fans a steady dose of espionage, secret organizations, and fan-favorite characters. The ABC series launched in 2013, starring Clark Gregg as Phil Coulson, the agent who first appeared in 2008’s ‘Iron Man’, alongside Chloe Bennet as Daisy Johnson, also known as Quake.
Since the show ended, fans have long wondered whether its characters would ever return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Some have even argued that the cast should have been brought back for ‘Secret Invasion’.
Now a single Instagram Story has reignited those hopes. Shortly after Marvel announced a new spy thriller series called ‘Zodiac’, Gregg shared the show’s logo on his Instagram Story, sending fans into a frenzy of speculation about a possible connection to ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’
The new series was officially revealed on Thursday at New York Comic Con. Marvel Television chief Brad Winderbaum opened the studio’s panel by announcing ‘Zodiac’ as a live-action spy thriller and unveiling its logo.
The show is heading to Disney+ in 2028. Casting is expected to begin in the next couple of weeks, with filming scheduled to kick off in London next spring. The Hollywood Reporter first reported in September that Marvel had greenlit a spy thriller series under the ‘Zodiac’ title. Plot details and characters remain under wraps for now.

Fans quickly began dissecting the logo for hidden meaning. Many noticed that the “A” in ‘Zodiac’ appears to contain S.H.I.E.L.D.’s signature eagle symbol, a detail that has only fueled theories about ties to the agency.
The letter “O” has also drawn attention. Shaped like a wheel made of 12 pieces with 3 missing, it may point to an obscure corner of Marvel Comics lore involving the Zodiac cartel and a secret group of spymasters, each assigned a sign of the Zodiac.
Gregg’s Instagram Story may have been unintentional fuel, but fans have treated it as a potential tease. Given his long history as Coulson, any post from him about a Marvel spy series was bound to spark theories.
Still, nothing has been confirmed. Marvel has not revealed whether any established characters will appear, and the series could follow the pattern of other recent Marvel shows that don’t rely heavily on past projects.
Complicating matters, S.H.I.E.L.D. officially no longer exists in the MCU, having been replaced by S.W.O.R.D. That leaves plenty of room for speculation about how the agency’s legacy could factor into the new show.
‘Zodiac’ was not the only news from the panel. Marvel also announced 3 new two-part ‘Marvel Zombies’ specials arriving annually through 2029. The announcements come as ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ prepares to wrap up with its third season. With ‘Zodiac’ now on the way, Marvel Television appears ready to expand its slate into new genres.
Online, fans have been eager to see the ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ cast return in some form. Many are hoping ‘Zodiac’ could finally bridge the gap between the ABC series and the wider MCU. For now, those hopes rest on a logo and an Instagram Story. With casting set to begin soon, fans may not have to wait long for more clues.
Do you think Marvel’s ‘Zodiac’ will bring back characters from ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’?
