Emma Stone Is All Smiles in Runway-Fresh Louis Vuitton at NYFF Premiere of ‘The Debut’
The New York Film Festival has been packed with premieres this year, and few stars bring red carpet excitement quite like Emma Stone. The two-time Oscar winner, known for ‘La La Land’ and ‘Poor Things’, has been making the rounds this fall as a producer rather than a leading lady.
Her latest project comes from a filmmaker she knows well. Stone has now produced 3 films with Jesse Eisenberg, following ‘When You Finish Saving the World’ and ‘A Real Pain’, and she attended the festival’s screening of the latter back in 2024.
That partnership brought her back to Lincoln Center this week. On Wednesday, October 7, Stone attended the premiere of ‘The Debut’ at Alice Tully Hall during the 64th New York Film Festival, beaming and waving to photographers as she arrived with a camel coat draped over her arm and a small cream clutch in hand.
She wasn’t just there to cheer from the sidelines. Stone attended as a producer through her Fruit Tree production company, and she brought along her husband Dave McCary and Fruit Tree partner Ali Herting. Photos shared from the night also show her posing alongside Julianne Moore, while the festival’s official account greeted her arrival with a heart-filled post on X.

The look itself had a whirlwind backstory. Earlier in the week, Stone was in Paris sitting front row at Louis Vuitton’s Paris Fashion Week show, and by Wednesday night she was in New York wearing a custom version of a dress that had just premiered on the runway the day before.
Her slinky empire-waist slip featured a gray satin panel draped along the neckline, paired with a muted skirt with a faint sheer finish. The original runway version was far bolder, with a bright yellow underlay and embellished silver straps, and W Magazine noted that her toned-down take suited her behind-the-scenes role on the film.

Repossi jewelry completed the outfit, along with delicate strappy heeled sandals. The pared-back styling marked a rare red carpet appearance and an apt return to the circuit after her Paris trip.
The film itself is a love letter to the stage. ‘The Debut’ is the third feature from writer-director Eisenberg, with Julianne Moore playing Mona, a New Jersey housewife who lands a part in a local musical despite having no stage experience, while Paul Giamatti plays her demanding director.
Before arriving in New York, the movie premiered at both Telluride and Toronto in September. The NYFF turnout was a starry affair, with Bernadette Peters, Halle Bailey, Colton Ryan, Lilli Cooper and Bonnie Milligan among those on the green carpet alongside the lead stars.

LaineyGossip described the film as overflowing with affection for theatre kids, and pointed to Stone’s producing role as a bonus, predicting she will put her influence behind the film’s awards campaign. That kind of star power could matter as the season heats up.
The film is backed by Topic Studios and A24, the same team that previously worked with Eisenberg on ‘A Real Pain’. A24 will release ‘The Debut’ in theaters on December 11, making the festival premiere an early public showcase ahead of its wider launch.

For Stone, the night was a reminder that she doesn’t need to be on screen to steal the spotlight. Between the runway-to-red-carpet fashion moment and her continued creative partnership with Eisenberg, her producing chapter is shaping up to be just as compelling as her acting career.
Are you excited to watch ‘The Debut’ starring Julianne Moore this winter?
