Andrew Garfield and Monica Barbaro Turn Heads Together at the ‘Artificial’ London Premiere

Andrew Garfield has always been famously protective of his private life. Ever since he was first linked to Monica Barbaro in February 2025, the couple has largely kept their romance out of the spotlight, rarely speaking about each other in interviews.

Still, they haven’t been completely invisible. The pair made their first major public appearance together at Wimbledon in 2025, and they’ve since been spotted at a Penn & Teller show in Las Vegas, on a romantic getaway in Rome, and back at Wimbledon this summer.

Now, Garfield and Barbaro have stepped out on the same red carpet for a very special occasion. On Sunday, October 11, the couple attended the Gala screening of ‘Artificial’ at the Royal Festival Hall during the 70th BFI London Film Festival.

The appearance was especially notable because both actors star in Luca Guadagnino’s new film. Garfield plays OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, while Barbaro portrays OpenAI chief technology officer Mira Murati.

Garfield wore an olive-brown jacket over a matching open-collared shirt, paired with dark trousers and black shoes. He finished the look with round spectacles and his longer, wavy hairstyle.

Barbaro sparkled in a pale blue sequined slip dress with thin straps and a ruffled midi hem. She paired it with silver strappy heels and wore her dark hair in loose waves. The couple was joined by much of the film’s team. Guadagnino walked the carpet alongside Yura Borisov, Ike Barinholtz and Mark Rylance, as well as producers David Heyman and Jennifer Fox and screenwriter Simon Rich.

‘Artificial’ follows Altman through the dramatic days in 2023 when he was fired and then rehired at OpenAI. The cast also includes Cooper Hoffman, Jason Schwartzman and Chris O’Dowd, with Damon Albarn providing original songs and the score.

The film had its world premiere at the New York Film Festival on October 5 before arriving in London. Early reactions have praised Garfield’s turn, with Deadline describing his performance as chilling.

Garfield and Barbaro have consistently avoided turning their relationship into a publicity campaign. Barbaro has even sidestepped questions about Garfield when discussing ‘Artificial’, instead saying she was excited to work with the whole cast.

Their most recent outings have offered fans brief glimpses of their chemistry. At Wimbledon on July 4, the pair were photographed sharing affectionate moments in the Ralph Lauren suite, with Garfield debuting the longer hair and beard he still wore in London.

In June, they were also spotted enjoying a romantic dinner during a getaway in Rome. Fans have repeatedly praised the couple’s chemistry while admiring how private they’ve managed to stay.

Both actors have had a big year professionally. Garfield, a two-time Oscar nominee for ‘Hacksaw Ridge’ and ‘Tick, Tick… Boom!’, starred in Guadagnino’s ‘After the Hunt’ alongside Julia Roberts and Ayo Edebiri before reuniting with the director for ‘Artificial’.

Barbaro, also an Oscar nominee, starred opposite Callum Turner in the romantic comedy ‘One Night Only’, which hit theaters in August. Her role in ‘Artificial’ adds another high-profile project to her growing résumé.

‘Artificial’ arrives in theaters on Christmas Day through Neon. The project was rescued by the studio after Amazon MGM stepped away earlier this year. For fans of the couple, the London premiere offered a rare chance to see them celebrate a shared project. Whether or not they ever speak openly about their romance, their red carpet appearance said plenty.
