‘VisionQuest’ Star Paul Bettany Dodges ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Question With a Hilarious Answer
Paul Bettany has been part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since the very beginning. He first voiced Tony Stark’s AI assistant J.A.R.V.I.S. in 2008’s ‘Iron Man’ before stepping into the role of Vision in ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’, later appearing in ‘Captain America: Civil War’, ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and the acclaimed Disney+ series ‘WandaVision’.
Now, the actor is gearing up for his biggest solo outing yet. ‘VisionQuest’, an 8-episode series led by showrunner Terry Matalas, premieres on Disney+ on October 14 and brings back James Spader as Ultron, with Bettany playing the new White Vision who has been hiding from those seeking to weaponize him.
With ‘VisionQuest’ arriving just weeks before ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, fans have been wondering whether Vision will also show up in the Russo brothers’ massive crossover. Marvel has confirmed a stacked cast for the film, but Vision’s return has not been announced.
Bettany was asked directly about it during a recent appearance on Good Morning America. Rather than revealing anything, he responded with a joke about job security. “I’m just trying to keep the kids in shoes, and if I tell you that, I’ll get fired. I’m just out there hustling,” Bettany told Good Morning America. He added that the decision belongs to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige and co-president Louis D’Esposito.
Bettany also shared that his Marvel credentials don’t impress everyone. He joked that his kids like to put up a picture of him as Vision with the caption calling him the worst Avenger.

The lighthearted moment fits with Bettany’s long-running sense of humor about his superhero career. Over the years, he has often poked fun at how the Marvel films are the only part of his work his kids have ever been interested in.
While he stayed tight-lipped about ‘Doomsday’, Bettany has been slightly more open about the franchise’s next chapter. During an appearance on the ‘Happy Sad Confused’ podcast, he said he believes he will be part of ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’.
That film is set to arrive on December 17, 2027, a year after ‘Doomsday’ opens on December 18. Some fans have speculated that ‘VisionQuest’ could be setting the character up for a big return in one or both films.
Bettany has described ‘VisionQuest’ as a huge creative swing, calling it weird and out of left field. At D23, he said he would happily keep playing Vision as long as Marvel continues finding fresh ways to evolve the character.

The series also had an unexpected journey behind the scenes. ‘WandaVision’ creator Jac Schaeffer stepped away from the project, and Bettany told Entertainment Weekly that the change initially left him feeling like the rug had been pulled out from under him before Matalas quickly came aboard.
He has since described the show as a springboard for where Vision might go next. It is billed as the final chapter in a loose trilogy that began with ‘WandaVision’ and continued with ‘Agatha All Along’.
Bettany’s playful dodge has only fueled more speculation online. Many fans interpreted his answer as a sign that something is being kept under wraps, while others believe he is simply following Marvel’s strict secrecy rules.
Either way, viewers will see plenty of Vision very soon. ‘VisionQuest’ arrives on October 14, giving fans their first look at where the character is headed before the Avengers assemble again.
