Walt Disney Animation Studios has a long tradition of debuting its biggest original films over Thanksgiving weekend. This year, the studio is betting on ‘Hexed’, its 65th animated feature and a magical coming-of-age story that was first revealed by chief creative officer Jared Bush at a D23 event in August 2025.

The film follows Billie Doe, an impulsive and unconventional teenager who discovers she has secret magical powers. Those abilities pull her out of suburbia and into Hexe, a vast hidden realm of witches, where she must team up with her cautious mother, Alice, to uncover family mysteries that could change the world of witches forever.

Now, Disney has unveiled a new poster for ‘Hexed’, giving fans another vibrant glimpse at Billie’s world. The film is set to hit theaters on November 25. The artwork shows Billie in a flowing crimson hooded cape, looking back over her shoulder as a glowing orb of magic hovers in her hand.

Behind her, whimsical towers rise beneath a bright crescent moon, while a bubbling green cauldron and an open spellbook sit in the foreground. Several quirky magical creatures also appear around the edges, adding to the playful, enchanted atmosphere. The poster proudly bills the movie as coming from the studio behind ‘Frozen’ and ‘Zootopia’.

Hailee Steinfeld leads the cast as Billie, with Rashida Jones voicing her mother, Alice. The pair were announced as the film’s stars in April. Tracey Ullman and Stephen Fry joined the cast when the teaser trailer arrived in June, with Ullman playing Billie’s magical mentor, a talking writing tool. In August, Disney added Jodie Foster and Walton Goggins, who voices a three-eyed cat mentor.

The film’s colorful supporting characters also include a sentient cauldron named Bucket. Early footage showed Billie trading jokes with a talking book and pen as she signs her name and enters a world of magic. ‘Hexed’ is directed by Fawn Veerasunthorn, who co-directed ‘Wish’, and Jason Hand of ‘Moana 2’. Josie Trinidad, known for ‘Zootopia+’, serves as co-director.

The screenplay comes from Jared Bush, Dana Ledoux Miller, and Jon Robin Baitz. Roy Conli and Yvett Merino serve as producers. The project went through notable changes during development. The lead character was originally described as an unnamed boy before Disney revealed in April that the story would center on a teenage girl named Billie.

The film was also teased at CinemaCon earlier this year. Its trailers have since leaned into a mix of humor, heart, and visually rich fantasy. ‘Hexed’ arrives with plenty riding on it. Veerasunthorn’s previous holiday release, ‘Wish’, met with a disappointing critical and commercial reception, making this original story an important test for the studio.

The film’s blend of a relatable teen heroine and an expansive magical world could give it strong appeal for family audiences. Its release on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving positions it perfectly for holiday moviegoers. ‘Hexed’ opens exclusively in theaters on November 25. Disney has said the film will then debut on Disney+ in early 2027.

With its striking new poster and an impressive voice cast, the movie is building momentum heading into the holiday season. Fans now have just over a month to wait before they can join Billie on her journey through Hexe.
