Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ has been one of the defining films of 2026. Since opening in theaters on July 17, the epic adaptation of Homer’s ancient poem has smashed records, earning more than $1.77 billion worldwide and over $621 million domestically during its remarkable run.

The film stars Matt Damon as Odysseus on his perilous, decade-long journey back to Ithaca after the Trojan War. The ensemble also includes Tom Holland as Telemachus, Anne Hathaway as Penelope and Robert Pattinson as Antinous, alongside Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya, Jon Bernthal and Mia Goth.

Now, Universal Pictures has confirmed when fans can bring the epic into their living rooms. ‘The Odyssey’ will be available to watch at home on November 17, complete with exclusive special features.

The official announcement came with a short new clip showing Odysseus’s crew straining at the oars aboard a ship on rough seas. Fans quickly flooded social media with excitement over the long-awaited home release.

On November 17, the film will be available to rent or buy through digital platforms including Apple TV, Fandango at Home, Prime Video and YouTube. Universal is also releasing the film on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD the same day.

Details about the exclusive special features have not yet been revealed. Fans are hoping for behind-the-scenes content showing how Nolan and his team pulled off the film’s mythic set pieces.

According to Blu-ray.com, the standard Blu-ray is listed as a 2-disc set, while the 4K edition will include 3 discs. A special edition steelbook is also planned, and the physical releases will come with a digital copy.

The simultaneous digital and physical release is notable for collectors. It means fans who prefer discs won’t need to wait longer than digital buyers. ‘The Odyssey’ made history as the first feature-length film shot entirely on IMAX 70mm cameras. Nolan used the tall 1.43:1 IMAX aspect ratio for select sequences in theaters.

The home version, however, will be presented in a wider 1.78:1 aspect ratio. That means some of the image seen in IMAX theaters will be trimmed for home screens. Viewers should also plan ahead. The film runs 2 hours and 52 minutes, making it Nolan’s second-longest movie.

The timing closely mirrors the release strategy for Nolan’s previous Universal film, ‘Oppenheimer’. That movie also spent several months in theaters before arriving on premium video on demand and physical media in November 2023.

Arriving exactly 4 months after its theatrical debut, ‘The Odyssey’ gives audiences who missed it in cinemas a chance to finally see what the buzz is about. For those who caught it on the big screen, the home release offers a chance to revisit it in detail.

The November 17 date covers digital rental and purchase only, not subscription streaming. Peacock is expected to be the first subscription service to host the film. If ‘Oppenheimer’ is any guide, that could happen a few months after the digital debut. Universal has not yet announced an official streaming date.

The home release arrives as ‘The Odyssey’ continues to generate strong awards buzz. The film is widely considered a frontrunner in the Best Picture race. With its massive box office success and critical acclaim, the film is likely to be a popular home entertainment release this holiday season. Fans won’t have to wait much longer to experience Odysseus’s journey all over again.
