Terry Matalas has quickly become one of the most talked-about creators in sci-fi television. Known for ’12 Monkeys’ and the acclaimed third season of ‘Star Trek: Picard’, he caught the attention of Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige, who brought him aboard to create and showrun ‘VisionQuest’.

The series, which premiered on Disney+ on October 14, serves as the third and final chapter of the ‘WandaVision’ trilogy. It follows Paul Bettany’s White Vision on a search for his identity, with James Spader returning as Ultron and Ruaridh Mollica playing an older Tommy Maximoff across 8 episodes released weekly.

With the series now streaming, Matalas has been asked what comes next for him at Marvel Studios. Speaking with Screen Rant’s Liam Crowley, he admitted he can’t say much but would love nothing more than to keep playing in the Marvel sandbox, adding that Vision, Ultron, and the Maximoff family are now part of his DNA.

When Crowley suggested an ‘Avengers: The Children’s Crusade’ project as a natural follow-up, Matalas was immediately on board. “I would love nothing more than to do something like that,” he told Screen Rant, noting that the decision ultimately rests with Feige.

Matalas made it clear what would make such a project worthwhile for him. He said he would love the chance to explore his own interpretation of Wanda, as long as the rest of the family could come along, including Ultron.

That idea fits neatly with what ‘VisionQuest’ has been building. The ‘Children’s Crusade’ comic storyline centers on the Young Avengers and the Scarlet Witch, making it a fitting next step for the Maximoff family saga.

The series has already reshaped key parts of MCU history. Matalas revealed to Screen Rant that Vision never truly destroyed Ultron at the end of ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’, instead backing up his code inside a digital Mindspace.

Marvel’s main requirement for the show was a reunion between Vision and his son Tommy, giving Matalas plenty of room to explore the rest. He has described the result as a 3-generation father-son story between Ultron, Vision and Tommy, which mirrors the family themes at the heart of ‘Children’s Crusade’.

The parallels have only fueled speculation among fans. One report has even claimed that ‘VisionQuest’ could serve as the starting point for a storyline inspired by the comic.

There are also rumors that elements of the story could appear in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ or ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’, which might complicate Matalas’ hopes. Meanwhile, a long-rumored ‘Scarlet Witch’ movie remains another possibility for continuing Wanda’s journey.

Matalas has been especially vocal about his admiration for the show’s stars. “I want to work with Paul Bettany and James Spader forever,” he told IndieWire, highlighting how much the collaboration meant to him.

That enthusiasm could make him a natural fit for any future Maximoff-centered project. If Marvel decides to keep the ‘WandaVision’ universe going, he has already shown he understands its characters deeply.

For now, Marvel hasn’t announced any plans for an ‘Avengers: The Children’s Crusade’ adaptation. Any decision will ultimately come down to Feige and the studio’s broader plans for the MCU.

Still, Matalas’ comments have given fans plenty to dream about. With ‘VisionQuest’ only just beginning its run, the conversation about where the Maximoff family goes next is clearly just getting started.

Would you like Terry Matalas to bring Avengers: The Children’s Crusade to the MCU after VisionQuest?
