‘Power Rangers’ May Have Found a New Home at Prime Video After Disney+ Pulled the Plug
Few kids’ franchises have shown the staying power of ‘Power Rangers’. ‘Mighty Morphin Power Rangers’ debuted more than 30 years ago, and it spawned a long line of spinoff series, a 1995 feature film and a big-budget reboot that tried to bring the teens with attitude to a new generation.
Recent years, however, have been rocky for the brand on screen. Hasbro, which bought ‘Power Rangers’ from Saban Entertainment in 2018, has spent years trying to get a new live-action adaptation off the ground, and several attempts have stalled along the way.
Now there may finally be light at the end of the Command Center. Amazon’s Prime Video is reportedly in talks to bring a new ‘Power Rangers’ project to the streamer, according to a scooper on X, although nothing has been officially confirmed yet.
Details remain scarce. Reports suggest Prime Video is interested in reviving the franchise with either a new series or a movie, but the format, creative team, and release plans have not been confirmed.
Neither Amazon nor Hasbro has commented publicly, so fans should treat the news as an unconfirmed rumor for now. Still, Prime Video’s interest would mark a major turnaround for a property that just lost its last streaming home.
Before Amazon entered the picture, ‘Power Rangers’ was in development at Disney+. In 2025, Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz, the showrunners behind ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’, entered talks to write and showrun a live-action series, with Hasbro and 20th Television attached as partners.ž

The project spent roughly 18 months in development but never reached production. In August, Deadline reported that Disney+ had passed, citing economics rather than creative concerns.
The price tag was the main obstacle. A high-end live-action superhero show requires heavy spending on costumes, effects, and large-scale action, and Disney reportedly questioned whether it made sense to fund that for a franchise it doesn’t own.
Disney+ wasn’t the first streamer to back away. Netflix had a live-action version in development with former ‘Supernatural’ story editor Jenny Klein, but it stopped moving forward in June 2024.
Before that, Hasbro tapped Jonathan Entwistle in October 2020 to oversee ‘Power Rangers’ TV and film development under what he described as a cinematic universe. That ambitious plan never came to fruition either.
Netflix did remain home to the franchise’s most recent projects, including ‘Power Rangers Dino Fury’, ‘Power Rangers Cosmic Fury’ and a ‘Mighty Morphin’ reunion special. None of those, however, were the kind of big-budget reinvention Hasbro has been chasing.
The franchise’s last major theatrical push also didn’t go as planned. Lionsgate’s 2017 ‘Power Rangers’ reboot, starring Dacre Montgomery, cost a reported $100 million and grossed about $142 million worldwide.

Montgomery later said Lionsgate had planned a 4-film arc, but the sequels never happened. That disappointing result helps explain why studios have been cautious about committing big money to the brand.
If the talks are real, Amazon could be a natural fit. Prime Video has shown a willingness to invest in large-scale genre franchises, and ‘Power Rangers’ comes with built-in nostalgia and a multigenerational fanbase.
The big question is whether Amazon can make the economics work where Disney couldn’t. A movie rather than a series could be one way to control costs while still delivering the spectacle fans expect. For now, fans will have to wait for official confirmation from Amazon or Hasbro. Until then, the reported talks are a hopeful sign that the franchise isn’t done morphing just yet.
How would you like to see Power Rangers return if Prime Video revives the franchise?
