The Full Cast of ‘Fjord’ and the Characters They Play (with photos)
‘Fjord’ is a family drama and legal thriller written and directed by Cristian Mungiu, starring Sebastian Stan and Renate Reinsve as a Romanian and Norwegian couple who face scrutiny after moving to the wife’s remote Norwegian hometown. The film won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival. The cast of ‘Fjord’ draws on actors from across Norway, Sweden and Romania.
The ensemble includes Norwegian performers alongside Romanian actors, and the film was sold to more than fifty territories before shooting began. It arrived in theaters on October 9. Here is who plays each role.
Sebastian Stan

Stan plays Mihai Gheorghiu. He is Romanian born himself, and the film has him bald, bearded and hidden behind thick glasses, speaking in Romanian or accented English. He earned Best Actor nominations at the Oscars, Golden Globes and BAFTAs for ‘The Apprentice’.
Renate Reinsve

Reinsve plays Lisbet Gheorghiu, the Norwegian wife and mother of five children. She is internationally known for ‘The Worst Person in the World’. She and Stan previously starred opposite each other in ‘A Different Man’.
Lisa Carlehed

Carlehed plays Mia Halberg, the neighbour of Mihai and Lisbet. The Halbergs are the family whose warmth offers the Gheorghius the promise of a fresh start.
Ellen Dorrit Petersen

Petersen plays Gunda. She is one of several Norwegian performers who fill out the village around the central family.
Lisa Loven Kongsli

Loven Kongsli plays Frida. She is one of the principal names billed alongside Reinsve, Stan and Thorbjørn Harr.
Henrikke Lund Olsen

Lund Olsen plays Noora Halberg. The role places her within the neighbouring family whose children grow close to the Gheorghius.
Giulia Nahmany

Nahmany plays Ruth. She is also among the Romanian actors in the ensemble.
Thorbjørn Harr

Harr plays the chief policeman. The story follows an immigrant family subject to an investigation who face the scrutiny of the local judicial system.
Christian Rubeck

Rubeck plays Attorney Jacobsen. His character sits on the legal side of a story built around institutional power and private family life.
Adrian Titieni

Titieni plays Samuel. He is another of the Romanian actors in the cast.
Erik Hivju

Hivju plays Frederick’s grandfather.
With so many carefully drawn roles on both sides of the dispute, which performance do you think carries the most weight in the clash between the Gheorghius and their neighbours in ‘Fjord’?
